As the Phoenix have kept their squad to a minimum and given that they have no youth team in which the fringe players can get some game time - what do you all think of the idea that the team management deliberately rotate through their squad giving everyone a place in the game day 15 at least once a month? In practical terms I guess it means one out of the three outfield players on the bench for any given game may be different to the choice the management would make under a "natural selection". Given that they are all professionals and the guys not getting game time tend to be the hungriest in the team, when given a chance, I would suggest it might be a good thing to aim for in the unique situation (relative to the rest of the A-league) that the Nix are in.

I thought of using a different Title 'cause that one's got baggage but what the heck

Could work. However i would prefer to see RH put out his strongest team every week (ie those who are training the best) than playing someone because he needs a run.

I don't mind seeing someone knew on the bench to make way for someone who hasn't made musch impact. They need their shot and I wouldn't mind one bench swap for someone if they were ineffective

O.K. no one's going to like this idea & you're going to think "sounds like the kind of *** an under 11 club coach would come up with - which makes sense because that 's what I am.
So to make it sound less bad
1. As the manager this would be an intention but very likely not a publically stated policy.
2. You've got 3 outfield* positions on the bench & the 3rd one is hardly getting used tactically anyway, it's more positional injury cover.
3. Selection is always a marginal thing so if you've got a choice between a couple of guys for the last spot on the bench and you give it to the guy who's gone 5 weeks without getting in the playing squad then maybe that's a good thing to do for the player & the squad as a whole (especially when there's nothing else going on for them- no reserve team).
* wrong word I think but you know what I mean.

yeah- I'm not suggesting changing the starting 11, just modifying the priorities for selecting the last bench spot really.

When the All Blacks did it, it gave them a shiat load of depth (which they are lacking now)
But for the Phoenix... no.

No..... but at least you are'nt suggesting they all have a turn at being keeper or was that going to be your next suggestion.

what's you record with the u11's?
Usually bottom half of the table with a giant killer performance somewhere in the season.

No, no, we don't even do that in our under 11s. You end up with someone in tears.

So just like the Phoenix then. In principle it's fine for the u11s because you've always got the fat boy and the asthmatic that you need to accomodate. For the Phoenix squad I can't see any tangible benefit in giving someone a turn on the bench when there is no real intention of giving them game time anyway, plus it's tactically inadviseable for the coach not to select what he considers is the best squad to do the job on the day.

I thought I'd seen it all when I saw someone in another thread comparing Ferrante to Xavi.

[/QUOTE]Yeah, yeah, you guys are right. I told my wife I was going to make a fool of myself, she said "honey, at least you're used to it".
So it is a lean old time if you are a Nix fringe player, I just hope the club has some way of keeping the boys out of the pub before lunch on game days.
