Someone please explain what the hell this is all about , and why

Essentially it’s about getting more bums on seats by targeting people who haven’t been/or regularly go to Nix games. As Supporters Clubs we’re trying to break down the euro snob mentality some have, but also show people that a lot of us are Nix fans too (season ticket holders etc)

Do you seriously think even one person extra will come to the game because of that? How about we say the Phoenix play in yellow and black stripes, we all wear that in support, and our team doesn't wear stupid white strips for home games?????????

Who knows whether it will work but at least it is something different and they need something different to try get more fans along. From all accounts there has been some good uptake from the supporters groups and these are the types that if they enjoy and get invested in the team will come back week on week.

How about giving credit to someone trying to get more people to the game, instead of sitting on your ass and criticising?

The Nix believe they will, and so far they’re right according to ticket sales using the promo code they issued. They’re trying to think of ways to engage new fans that isn’t just related to wins on the field. At least they’re trying to improve crowd numbers...

The hype seems to be growing a little bit if we can get a win this weekend it will only build.

This season so far its been me and a mate with season passes and another mate who just rocks up.

This weekend I have managed to talk a couple of the palmy lads that used to come down into coming again and another 3 or 4 from wellington to come along, two of which haven't been to a phoenix game before.

I really hope we can build on the Perth game have a blistering game this weekend and just keep pumping the hype!

I think personally there are better initiatives to grow our fan-base (and ultimately the number of bums on seats), and to be fair to the Nix, some of them are already being used.

Discounts, children being free, free ticket on your birthday week, discounts for clubs and charities, refugees, competitions, entertainment (whether before, at half-time, or after the game) are all ideas which will appeal to some of the more casual supporters.

So what are we predicting for the game... as opposed to what will people be wearing.

I'm going with a 3 - 1 win. With our best 11 on the pitch for the first time this season we will dominate early taking a 2 - 0 lead at half time. We will conceed a goal in the 68th minute, only to get a 3rd and kill the game off in the 82nd as Central Coast push forward looking for the equaliser.

I predict a win will be harder than squeezing the last drop out of a Masterfoods sauce bottle.

0-0

3-2 to the nix. Both teams look decent going forwards but leak silly goals at the back. Krishna to bang two and Mcglinchey with the other, Mariners will score with one of the Dutchy mids and Connor Pain.

Annual finals disappointment enthusiast.

No part of me supports or endorses this.

I'm split on it. On one hand it makes me very uncomfortable, as I'm not a huge fan of wearing the colour's of any other team at a Nix game. I can see what they're trying to achieve though and, hopefully, if we get some more along to the game they'll get into it and decide to come along regularly, and leave all the EPL/SPL/Serie A etc paraphernalia and BS at home when they do so.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

They do all those as well, it's just something else to try.

Maybe we should have a "Dress as a Ref" Day too!

You may deride it but we're not getting the crowds that the club needs so good on them for trying to attract different people. To be honest people can be as snobbish as these so called euro snobs. And the 6k of core Phoenix supporters are just not enough.

Yep, it makes me cringe hard - but i'm not the target audience.  I'm happy the club is trying things to attract more supporters.

so what's it next week, wear your jandals or come in the nude week? This is just scraping the barrel. They can try and find new customers but not at the expense of existing good customers. Maybe they want to swap regular season ticket holders who expect the team to play in yellow and black for a guy who will come one a year maybe so he can wear his Sunderland shirt.

How is this, in any way, at the expense of existing customers? The only impact on your match day experience will be seeing a bit more colour than usual. I don't know why that is offensive to you

With the weather we are ahving and our last result, we might actually get a decent crowd regardless of what jersies they are wearing. Decided to still come along in my Nix shirt.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The anger and righteousness of some posts (scraping the barrel?) is exactly why football in NZ has struggled for so long, ie a vocal few getting upset that what someone wants to do differs from their idea so the only way they have of dealing with it is to shout loudly and moan constantly.

Us Sunderland fans have enough to worry about with being concerned about getting abuse at the phoenix game for wearing the wrong colour stripes!

I know at least half a dozen premier league team fans who have been season ticket holders back in the UK but haven't made the jump here, most of them turn up to the Phoenix once or twice a season, it may make them turn up this weekend, who knows.. but hey if they turn up find a little group of same home clubs fans and feel like thats the spark to get them coming then worth a bash right.

Proudly "fed up of"         supporting the underdog, Major trophies in my lifetime:

Sunderland = 0

Do we have to bring up that story about the girl with a Gunners blanket getting yelled at?

Was an LFC blanket, but point is the same.

Glad most on here are happy the Nix are at least making an effort to get new fans on board. Better than just sitting there moaning that the crowds are average but not doing anything about it...

This reminds me of my younger days in Sydney watching my old club Sydney City under Eddie Thomson (in the old NSL) playing Sydney United (then called Sydney Croatia) Croatia, and making damn sure I wasn't ignorantly wearing something that looked vaguely Serbian, Bosnian or whatever, when sitting near first generation Croatian migrants. Eh, those were the days, when a wrong blanket could result in superficial cuts and bruises.

Game Day - can't wait. Nix have to make a statement tonight now WC's all done and dusted.

If it wasn't for that damn let-down at Newcastle, I'd expect us to win - but that away performance was

such a let down, and so historically typical of our history - 1 step forward/2 steps back.

All of your strategies involve give aways or discount = loss of income. This new strategy means the club will recover the full cost of any new fans, not just a percentage or zero in the hope those people will come back and pay full price. This is a much more positive recruitment drive and something new.
