Save the Nix membership campaign

The news that Football Federation Australia (FFA) have declined the Wellington Phoenix a ten year licence extension to compete in the Hyundai A-League has rocked both the fans of the club and the football community as a whole.

As supporters of the club, we want to help the Phoenix show the FFA that they deserve their place in the A-League.

David Gallop, Chief Executive of the the FFA, has listed a number of metrics that the Phoenix need to improve in order to have a continued presence in the A-League. One of these metrics is the number of season memberships that are sold.

The aim of this fundraising effort is to raise money to buy a number of adult+child membership packages (worth $209 each). These will then be donated to organisations around Wellington that have a positive impact on the Wellington community.

We'd like to focus on organisations that have a large base of volunteer workers, to provide a way to say thank you to their volunteers by giving them a day out at a Phoenix match. We believe organisations such as Ronald McDonald House, Wellington Free Ambulance, Canteen and the SPCA fit this criteria, but would love to get ideas for other worthy causes. We won’t strictly limit our campaign to volunteer organisations, so if there are any organisations you believe deserve this opportunity, please send us your ideas via an email to savethenix@yellowfever.co.nz.

Not only will this #SaveTheNix campaign positively contribute to the Wellington community, it will also assist the Phoenix to meet David Gallop’s membership metrics and aid in the Phoenix’s ongoing negotiations with the FFA.

Great, great cause. Have been sharing it everywhere possible.

Already up to $1800 - fair effort in a couple of hours!

People need to get journos onto this, get people to tweet it out if possible etc.

just jumped over $2000!

Hopefully this gets massive. Every little bit helps our club guys, so get donating.

What a start. 2100 in a couple of hours - that person who donated $1000 is brilliant.

There's 20 odd memberships sitting in that give a little as well.

I know that before I was saying its only bullsharkting the figures all you guys who are buying extra membership. But it also shows just how committed the fan base is so good on you. You've changed my mind on the matter.

Another thing we can do is leave sky decoders on and tuned into the nix game -  myskyed to watch it later of course.

The fan base may be small but its very engaged, and as an advertiser I would prefer 6k of extremely interested fans rather than 10k of mildly interested fans.

Same but it's still bloody good.

Hopefully some like me are waiting for the next pay to get a membership. And then if we can get a big croud on Nov 13 and get the result on the day, we'll see another boost in memberships.

Nix Six tickets count as memberships too, and you can use them to take 6 people to 1 game, or 2 people to 3 games, or whatever. Good Christmas present idea right there....

The give a little has cracked $5000. So that is another 48 memberships. Awesome effort, let's keep it going.

awesome effort so far guys!!! Is this also something that we could lean on some of the local businesses that benefit from having the Phoenix? brilliant idea to give these to community charities speaking from a family that lived at the Ronald McDonald house for sometime this sort of thing is brilliant I remember getting a rainbows end pass for us and it's what we all needed a day away from the hospital and time to think and do something fun.

Interesting and useful for Welnix too - it gives a proxy indication of how much fans are prepared to "invest" in ownership of the club.

Yep - way I'm looking at it is that it can't hurt, can it? Seems like a win-win for all parties.

Great idea again guys.

hey guys. im looking to buy a membership. I live in auckland so i was gonna get a club membership with a ticket to use for the auckland game. But i realised that it's cheaper to get a season ticket membership if you're 16 and under. If i was to buy a season ticket membership would i be able to give my ticket to someone in wellington to use for the games that i wouldn't make?

I'd give it a week and a half.  People may not be able to afford one on short notice but after a pay check, maybe.

plus I expect a big push in the week leading up to our home game on the 13th.

I hope so.  A lot of people aren't paid until next week like myself.  So I can't get my boy the baby membership (that I didn't know existed) until then.

Given Dome's recent statements, I consider that highly, highly unlikely. I think they're going to try to stay and fight.

Question which will dictate if I give a little or buy a membership. If I give a little do you guys purchase that membership very very quickly? Like the next day?

If you do I will do that because I would prefer this going to one of the causes you have indicated.

If it takes a while I will just buy the membership because I am thinking we don't have days to increase these numbers

Not dome's decision to make tho. Welnix waiting until next week after the game and legal advice to make an announcement.

Lots of discussions and issues that no doubt won't be aired in public.

Really premature to pick the outcome.

I know people think I am a cheerleader for David Dome, but honestly, he has been doing an AMAZING job in the last two weeks.

Kudos to him, and everyone at the club.

I haven't been a fan of how Dome has handled himself in the media over the last couple of years, to be honest - but he's done pretty well in a difficult situation.

The Nix Twitter account has been manned pretty much non stop and doing great great work. Answering queries, directing people the the membership, tickets and givealittle cause pages, thanking people for their support, linkign to aritcles and posting pics of fans from other clubs with #SaveTheNix banners.
