I'm a bit scared that it's going to be even more difficult than usual in the transfer market for us - earthquakes, no coach, poor results, half a back-room, license hanging by a thread; we're not exactly an attractive destination
2017/18 Transfer Speculation
I'm a bit scared that it's going to be even more difficult than usual in the transfer market for us - earthquakes, no coach, poor results, half a back-room, license hanging by a thread; we're not exactly an attractive destination
"....Are you looking for a new challenge?...Sick of energy-sapping heat? Sick and tired of playing in front of oppressively large crowds? Bored and distracted by club minions catering to your every whim? Would you rather live your life on an edge, from one club licence renewal to another?"
I don't think the licence will affect it - we're still 3 years from oblivion and that's probably longer than most contracts we would offer anyway

Maybe not isolated from everything else; but together with all of the other issues, I think it will play a part.
Currently on the books we have this line up:
Sail
Fenton Durante Rossi Doyle
Ridenton McGlinchey
Barbarouses Finkler Parkhouse
Krishna
Bench: ??? Fox Rufer McGarry/Singh Rogerson
My shopping list would be:
1 starting keeper (happy with either Moss or Mambo)
2 fullbacks (retain Tratt if there is the +1 & look for another LB)
1 CB (retain Lowry)
2 DMs (Paartalu and a Riera replacement please)
1 central striker (an upgrade on Watto, take the risk on Gameiro maybe)
1 wide striker
Re: keeper, I'm still not convinced on Mambo and it really looks like Moss is gone. I'd want Marinovic seeing as he's off contract in June and in the AWs games I've seen of him he's looked better than Mambo IMO. I'd also retain Lia and A-Rod so I don't think DM is a priority at this stage. Our first choice defence has been solid and our real issue has been creating and finishing quality chancrs
Serious question, has Marinovich made any really good saves in games for the All Whites? I've not seen him do a lot at all, he's not really been tested, but he's also conceded a few stinkers and I can't remember any worldy saves at all.

Yeah but $$ makes that all go away. Spend money in the right places and we'll be ok (top tip, don't recruit two highly paid foreigners in the same position)

What is the German for pub footballer?
Also:
Scott Galloway?
Edit: I know that he has played LB mostly but not sure if he is naturally right footed or not.
Add a right back to the shopping list (again)
So how many "left for personal reasons" left by mutual agreement have the Nix had now, seems like its every second player that leaves the club.
Just him and Powell isn't it? at least they are for legitimate reasons and not because we signed a couple of donkeys and want them off our books.
McCain was the only one we got a fee for or did we get one for the Japan move?

Probably feels more because of that and others leave but not actually leaving the club.
Mark Ochieng?

Tratt u cod, now he will be of to victory and make our team look alot worse.

Liften didn't leave for personal reasons, he asked to be released because it was clear he wasn't going to get much game time.
McCain was the only one we got a fee for or did we get one for the Japan move?
I thought we got a fee for Burns. Although there was a rumor that he had a buy out clause in his contract.
It's a shame there's no transfer fees in the A-League.

Why, is Geria going anywhere? Tratt may struggle to get a gig at a top four club so early.
Did Pavlovic leave for personal reasons?
Be a bit cheesed off if Tratt uses us for a bit of the season and then has a long career at WSW or some such. What happened to Manny-esque loyalty?
I hope he is able to handle whatever life is throwing at him at the moment and comes back and score some more headers or make some more mazy runs for us...
Did Pavlovic leave for personal reasons?
According to an article - 12/10/2012
Phoenix yesterday released a statement saying the striker had a "medical condition which restricts his ability to play professional football".
Has managed a stint in India, the NPL NSW & NPL Victoria leagues since leaving Wellington.
Absolutely gutted about Tratt leaving. If it's for personal reasons and family matters then fair enough - like someone said earlier, some things are more important than football.
What I suspect is that while his personal matters are being tended to, he may find he has several knocks on his door from the likes of Central Coast, Newcastle, WSW - clubs who can dangle that carrot of being relatively close to a family base, clubs that have a number of spots opening up during the off season, and clubs who will probably chuck a bit of cash at him based on his performances for us this season.
Our situation with no one really being told anything much surrounding their futures with the club probably made it easier for him.
Good luck to him, would take him back anytime, but I suspect he'll be lining up against us next season.
Just him and Powell isn't it? at least they are for legitimate reasons and not because we signed a couple of donkeys and want them off our books.
What are the reasons though?
Personal Reasons is a bit of a catch-all term. Just reading the articles in the mainstream media, I personally have no idea at all why Powell and now Tratt have left.

Vuka took a pay cut to go to Sydney to be closer to his family IIRC

Yep all we can do is guess. Which means we're basically forbidden from being critical, lest we look like heartless morons.
I'll just say that they have not picked the right profession if they need to be close to family. Obviously happy to retract and apologise if the reason is compelling in both Powell and Tratt's cases, but I guess we'll never know.
Family and personal circumstance can change though.
Yea definitely understand that. And all credit to the Phoenix for being understanding around whatever these issues are.
Just strikes me as odd that I've never once seen it in the leagues/teams I follow, yet there's been 2 in a short space of time at the Phoenix, and unfortunately the lack of actual detail does leave room for speculation.
You'd also think that the Phoenix would try and keep him on their books but loan him out to a state league team or another a-league team.
What we need is a genuine goal scorer, maybe we could have a go at O'Donovan?
Rumoured (by FOX Sports) to be considering an offer from Newcastle Jets.
Must be a damn good one just to move there.
1) he might have bought a house south of Newcastle
2) CCM did not get a wooden spoon this year
Cool story but if he wants to move to a club that might actually make the finals and compete with the big boys Newcastle ain't it. pretty much saying he just wants the $$$ no matter what.
So how many "left for personal reasons" left by mutual agreement have the Nix had now, seems like its every second player that leaves the club.
Without breaching confidence can anyone explain what personal reasons are in this context?

He let in a howler in that game - one went straight in his near post where he was just wrongly positioned. I don't recall any grerat saves in that one but could be wrong.
I don't recall any great saves at the nations cup, couple of decent ones in the shoot out at the end but very little from open play. He doesn't look that agile to me, done little that is impressive that I've seen. Solid but no more

A long term girlfriend who is unable to shift to Welly would be my guess.
A year's absence is OK, but an extended contract might be a relationship killer.
