Just saw on the Sydney forum that Beckham put in a full 90 rather than the 55min. Though I also read that he's got an issue with his ankle. It looks like he twisted it while putting in a pass. Hope he's up for another 90 in Welly. Shame I'll be here in London enjoy the goal fest.

Santalab crashed into his ankle. He looked very uncomfortable after that.

The LA Galaxy are one of the worst teams (if not the worst) in the MLS right now. They are also in pre-season mode. Wouldn't judge American football just based on this mickey mouse game.. They're in a similar position to us - just 7 years or so ahead.

I saw a few DC United games and they looked pretty good - they're the one with Fred.

An Open Letter to Terry Serepisos and the Phoenix Supporters Club

HAVE YOU ALL LOST YOUR MARBLES?

It was a great experience to be in Australia to see Beckham live.

The Aussies gave him Super Star status and shown him the respect he deserves and has earned as one of the greatest footballers of our generation.
We may never see him again in our lifetime.

As a NZ'er I was staggered to read the Phoenix's supporters' club, Yellow Fever, has organised a tongue-in-cheek series of chants, aimed at the star attraction Beckham, for Saturday night's match against LA Galaxy in Wellington

To chant words of a song that infers Beckhams wife Victoria is the same as a prostitute named Victoria is not even FUNNY.

Victoria, released in 1982, is about Exponents singer/songwriter Jordan Luck's former landlady, who became a victim of domestic violence while she ran a brothel.

Theres nothing tongue in cheek about such a dumb and disgraceful insult.

You wouldnt have the balls to suggest to your neighbour that his wife is or was a prostitute or brothel keeper. If you did you would get what you deserved, an attitude adjustment by way of a decent smack in the mouth.

What a shame, Phoenix will lose all respect and the club will eventually suffer.

But then what else can you expect from the abusive loser NZ attitude, thats why 40,000 NZer's cross theTasman to live in Aussie every year to escape from dumb losers.

Where are you Terry Serepisos as an organization is a mirror of the man at the top?

well roc's effort may be the most literate piece of trolling we'll see in a while

or it could be someone who has genuine (if somewhat misplaced, in this context) concerns about the health and safety of prostitutes

none-the-less it seemed a bit inconsistent for him/her to suggest that the answer to our so called 'abusive' attitude would be a 'smack in the mouth'

rocy's kids must find life a bit confusing - "stopping hitting your brother, or i'll come over there and bash the crap out of yer!"

on a different note, will we face a bit of a backlash from Galaxy after their humbling by seeeydneeey??

I expect Gullit might want to see a bit ore out of them on saturday, or do they just not have the goods??

If those 40,000 Kiwis are all as stupid and humourless as Rocs then maybe it's not a bad thing they go to Australia   Correct me if I'm wrong, but the amusing thing about the song "Victoria" is not the context of the main protagonist being a prostitute, but the application of the words to a wealthy, good lucking, and famous man.  Think about it Rocs "Victoria, what do you see in him?" - it's funny.

What a plonker.

After four years living in Melbourne I am rather conversant with the Australian language and believe I am in a position to draft a reply for Mr Rocs.

Open letter to Rocs and his Australian people:

Time for some cultural understanding that spanns the divide

Victoria, is an anthem that crosses generational divides in our young country. first, it is a song that means alot to any Kiwi who has ever ventured to a sweaty dark hall during university orientation week to imbibe in the amber nectar and feel the warm touch of any or many young and buxom intellectual art history students. Victoria is a comming of age for us if you like. As is the arrival of the greatest free kick specialist and tabliod sesation of our era.

Victoria is a song that means a great deal to plumbers and builders and sparkies who could hum along to ZB to a tune that took them back to happy nights with girl in arm at the pub, where they could shout it out at the top of their licquored voices and always feel like they were Jordan Luck. As an anthem it's a great leveller, as is football.

Victoria is a song about great passion, angst and love; something which will certainly be on display when the Nix face Beckham and the Galaxy.

I admit it's a complex song and without the benefit of having lived it as I am sure all of the members of this forum have, it would be unfair to expect you to understand it. Which is why I have take 10 minutes of my wine soaked time to give you the benefit of my worldly experience.

And after all, you Aussies have a tradition of songs that are in a similar mould; I still struggle to understand the full significance of why Aussies climax all over Cold Chisel's dreadful ballad Khe Sahn but maybe it is the rather lewd line: 'their legs were often open, but their minds were always closed', that turns you all on.

I am sure you will agree to disagree on this one with me and will just accept that there are some cultural differences here which you now have a greater handle on.

For me Victoria is an intelligent and perfect choice of song for this match. It is a play on words and so much more.

I will listen out as a truely Kiwi chant comes of age when 30,000+ put one vice to a very special occaision in our sporting history.

Okay, I locked this as there is another thread on the same subject straight underneath.  However I have re-opened it to say that the post above this is a nomination for post of the month (if you ignore the typos)...
