Played pretty well last night, and if he was a Kiwi or Aussie I'd say sign him up already! Looks to have some potential but is he worth an import slot? According to this article he is definitely an import:

"Merrick was impressed with what he saw but as Timmins was classed as an overseas player he arranged for him to play for Team Wellington while still training with the Phoenix."

I was very impressed with his 70 minute (?) cameo

I liked the look of him, think he may have been a little cautious to start with but once he settled he done well, i think theres a lot more to come from him once fully match fit

Good on him for making the most of his opportunity but I'll reserve judgement on him until I see him against the likes of the in-form Dugandzic and Ferreira over the next few weeks.

I thought he was solid but he didn't blow my socks off. If he was a local he might be worth a shot as a CB/FB backup but definitely not as an import. IMO Manny has played better at LB (against better opposition) most of this season and Caira looked to be progressing nicely before the injury. We need more options in the holding/distributing midfield role before we use an import slot on a LB who isn't a noticeable improvement on what we have in our squad already.

However I do think that Dura and Siggy's days are numbered because of their age and lack of pace, so if Timmins impresses enough maybe he could be a longterm CB option beside Boxall?

I can not remember who played left back for us in Perth (probably Caira) but Sidnei Sciola literally tore us apart that night down the right hand side so he is no muppet.

David Dome on an interview on RadioSport this week said Timmins qualifies as an Aussie because of the time he has spent living tthere??? Not sure if Domey got it wrong or what

If he is not an import then def worth a look as a squad player

Sidnei destroyed Fenton twice this year. He seems to stay wide left as he did yesterday.

Timmins was put under a relatively low amount of pressure compared to games against heart and Adelaide as mentioned.

Think he was solid and didn't push forward into space as much as he could have, but that's expected. Think if he wasn't an import then he'd definitely be worth a contract. Same as Krishna I'd say.

I didn't hear the interview, but it sounds dopey, or maybe just a mental shorthand for "he has permanent residency in Australia". If that's the case, and he has never represented England, then he would be treat as an Australian player under FFA rules.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Well unless he's already applied for Australian Citizenship he can't be classed as an Aussie.

We were enquiring about his status I thought but can't see how he could be anything but a visa player. Last played in the UK in 2011, so would be 2016 at least before he would be an Aussie.

Could be through family, if that's the case

It's 4 years continuous residence to become an Aussie citizen. But you also have to be a PR before you can apply. Basically he must have an Australian passport to be counted as an Aussie, so unless he has already got one (which you'd think he doesn't as we're having this debate) or has already applied and is likely to be accepted he's not an Aussie as far as the A-League is concerned. I think it is highly highly unlikely he will be anything but a foreign player.

BTW playing for another country has nothing to do with being classed as a foreigner in the A-League. It's completely about whether you're an Aussie citizen or not.

Think the lad played well again, confident on the ball and  good defensive work, no goals came from left on sunday so must be doing something right. Hope he continues to improve in the weeks to come. Hope to shit his not injured.
