can we only sign players from other clubs during the transfer window or does it not matter in the a-league?
after watching the allwhites game last night i think there are some players we should look at signing.
david mulligan is 1 for me, hes not gettin much game time in england aswell.
we need 2 get rid of cleberson in my opinion. maybe getting ben sigmund
and he would probali onli come if he was our marquee signing but how good would it be having ivan vicelich at the back.

I'm a big fan of Andy Boyens. Also Chris James, and David Mulligan (i know he looked average vs Fiji but hes a good player). And while we are that it how about John Aloisi....The boys like Vince Lia, George Paladini and Steven Old who are on one year deals will have to impress to get resigned. And fingers crossed we keep FELIPE!
With all due respect to Vicelich...I dont think he's worth marquee money.

I can't see Boyens leaving Toronto, he's on the Nelsen path to glory.  He'd only be back if the MLS fails on him in a year or two.

Transfer window applies, but the A-League window does not match the european one.  Pretty sure that only applies for signing though, so Mully could move if we had room, wanted him and he wanted to come but we do have an awful lot of midfielders.  Ivan, maybe next year, but not as a marquee.

James is the one we should chase.

Mullys played alot of his football at the back. Would be good defensive cover for Christie and Lochhead (all internationals though).

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the transfer windows set by FIFA applicable to all pro, semi pro and even many amature clubs the same whether its Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and N & S America.

And I agree about Ivan and James.

A transfer window starting on January 1st does not work for a league who's regular season ends in the middle of January.

The A-League has one sometime in November in theory (apart from injury cover signings or free agents)

It doesnt matter if they are off-contract or released by their clubs though.

"Milicevic has missed much of the season with injury and has not had the best of relationships with Victory management or some of his teammates. It has been reported that he has options to return to Europe, and could do so when the transfer window opens in January."

Milicevic could only return to europe in the January window, he could move to an A-League club in the A-League window next month.

Could be an answer to the leaky goal problem

Bye Bye Cleberson

Was he with Melbourne when they won last year, or is he just fresh and poisonous

chris james would be a reli good signing! boyens is still young and will probali sign with a European club over the next few years so i highly doubt he would come 2 the nix.but with james looking for a new club... the nix shud look at signing him
sign david mulligan or ben sigmund and get rid of celeberson
ferrante isnt goin 2 get 2 much game time now with elrich and brown getting preference would it be better signing a nzer, duncan oughtan is about 30 (correct me if im wrong) so he might not be gettin 2 much game time in the mls so maybe the nix would look at him aswell

That's him in a nutshell. Melbourne can't wait to offload him. Avoid.

The only problem with signing lots of Kiwis is we're left with nobody when the All Whites play ...

very well said...I could not agree more...we need players who are not quite good enough to make it into their national side so that we dont have a mass exodous when qualifying or friendlies are on

that basically just means more Aussies then! Unless of course we ditch Clebo and George to free up 2 overseas places.

We could get the second-string NZ players (ones that don't make the All Whites). Or old ones.
Permalink Permalink

well ben sigmund would be a good signing if cleberson goes.
who are some other 2nd sting nzers that would be good enough tho?
Permalink Permalink

I expect Ricky would want all of his squad to be at (or above) All Whites standard or on their way to that level

so not sure if this idea of 'second string' nzers is a goer

don't really like this post. It feels like a football management game. Let's concentrate on the present, make the bloody playoffs and establish ourselves as a reality of the A-League, then we will think about it.
And instead of thinking about who we should drop or buy, let's focus on keeping Daniel, Felipe, O'Dor, Mossy..and all these valuable and talented players who will definitely be approached by big teams with big money..

And for what I'm concerned, I think Clebo is a good center defender. Against the Jets he had to play right defender - which isn't his role. Plus he was never helped when Griffith ran at full speed against him. I think you shouldn't blame him so much, but give him time to adapt to the A-League..

He has had five clubs in five years, Nix would make it six clubs in six years, and then when he is benched some other club will make him seven clubs in seven years.

My understanding not a coaches dream, more like a coaches njghtmare

heck no, wouldnt touch Milicevic with a 100 foot poll!!!!! r u guys forgetting those Tony 'blockhead' comments he made, the guys a moron, simple. IF he joined us Ross would hack him down in training to shut him up after a few weeks and leave him in the stands until he joins another club and slowly dies into the distance of prof. football

Nick Ward? He's struggling to get into the QPR first team, ex A League player with huge potential if only QPR realised it!
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Have to respond to that

Ban people for

Serious and continual abuse of other contributers

Serious and continual abuse of current players (Some of the stuff poked at Ferrante was way over the top, for example)

But not for speculating on who you would want to see come into the team to strengthen it.

Cant wait for tomorrows game and cant wait to have the best team in the league!!

was just joking about banning - but seriously -as the famous philisopher newzealandpower once said - "Let's concentrate oin the present"

To early to say who is going to go and who is coming in.....
And another thing, why does everyone like Bertos..He is not so good...would rather not ave him come into the squad.
