For me its the defensive signings as that's what we needed, plus I'm hoping Hearfield proves to be the find of the season further up front. But they are good cause now they are playing for the Phoenix.

=Durante: defence was our biggest prob and we got two top notch defenders
3-Bertos:Will do what El**ch was MEANT TO DO!

=Kwasnik: adds the needed depth and attacking options other than smeltz(sorta Daniel)

=Sigmund: both look very good and deserve to be in A league but probably are lower on the list than others in team, should create alot of competition for positions in squad...

i'm interested what are your reasons for thinking he wont be playing much? he came from a uefa cup team and we all know ricki is a fan of his, i would wager that hes going to see a lot of game time

I wouldn't put two defenders or two attackers at the top because of the importance of balance across the park, but there's no doubting the importance and the quality of durante and McKain

Meh, Siggy is only backup and it's terrific to see a player go straight from NZFC to the Phoenix.

Our top 8 transfer moves, according to me:
8. Hearfield. His low rank signifies the high quality of our signings, not any potential low quality of Troy - I think he'll do well but because we're rather loaded in terms of non-holding midfielders, he might struggle for game time.
7. Sigmund - Only slightly higher than Hearfield because our need for defensive cover is much more of a priority than midfield cover with our depth. Greatly interested to see how he'll adapt to the change in level. As someone who supports the NZFC, I hope he'll become the first (second if you count Costa) of many NZFC success stories, so that the NZFC gains more prestige as a development league - thus attract more scouts and hopefully more crowds/funding.
6.Gao - Was rusty for the first couple of preseason matches but has shown some great potential. However with Daniel, Ferrante and Bertos as supplying midfielders, he may be more of a super-sub.
5. Kwasnik - Edges out Gao only because he's more of a striker. I'm among those who believes a partner for Smeltz is a high priority - even as just a placeholder until Ricki sends on Covs or Costa as an impact player
4. Bertos - One of the best playmakers in the league, AND a local. Glad to have him home.
3. Durante. Brings a lot of leadershup and credibility to the club, and is definatly a huge improvment to our defense. Plus Newcastle is a worse team without him, I like that 
2. McKain. I've been really impressed with his work in the preseason. Would love to see him as captain, although my vote goes to Ferrante.
And the best move we've made of all:
1. Not re-signing El**ch. 'nuff said.

3 bertos - all whites v vanuatu need i say more
4 kwasnik- a desprately needed front man
5 gao - 08/09s daniel
6 sigmund - will be interesting to see if he can make the step up
7 hearfield - potentially good for the future, but too many attacking midfielders and i doubt will see little game time this season unles he can rreally prove himself early on

Why not? He's certain to be a starter, an established part of the side, has played for a team thats won't both the Premiership and the Championship, and has shown good leadership in pre-season matches?

I said a while ago Ferante should have been captain as well, he really came into form at the end of the season, looked like a leader and had the heart that no matter how slammed he got by the media and even fans, he kept at it, and turned out good.
I still reckon he'll be one of our outstanding performers this year.
His long passing skills are some of the best in the league.
