It's ridiculous how much Slater has changed his tune. I guess he was sick of just being 'that New Zealand hating guy' on Fox Sports

Hill is the best by far though. Trimmers is ok too

Very supportive to our cause and trashed AFC heaps which I loved.

Do not trust Slater. He has made it amply clear he doesn't like there being a NZ club in the A League. However we can do with all the positive reinforcement we can get at the moment.

I laughed when one of them said 'And thats what hes good at' when Tim Brown missed that open goal.I thought he was implying Brown was good at missing. He was ofcourse referring to his ability to score goals from his head. His statement was right either way though

They were quite supportive tonight, as someone else said, i don't think Australians appreciate being told what to do by the Asian Confederation or more particulary it's president.  But what was said tonight was quite fair and complimentary towards the Phoenix. I dont expect to hear that too often, but it is nice to hear all the same.

Funny interview between Slater and Ricki

Was great hearing the positives from them.  Especially from Slater.  Didn't expect that.

Simon Hill is a great commentator, knows his stuff, doesn't have too strong an accent and is reasonably impartial.

Classic from Ricki in the aftermatch interview.

Slater: "Before we go, congratulations on making the World Cup, Ricki".

Ricki: "It's taken a while to hear that, Robbie. I've been waiting for your text".

Class.  And when Hill told Slater he was pathetic.  That was awesome.

Shame you were HN, your ears wouldn't have believed what you were hearing. Watch the replay and enjoy music to our ears from commentators we have previously villified on here.

I think you are wrong. Slater has only been against NZ teams because they were crap- the Auckland sides- and were doing nothing for the game.I agree with him. He is not anti the Nix.

Could someone with some knowledge of Spanish enlighten me as to the correct pronounciation for Caceres?

Is it:

a) Ka' serez
b) Ka' kerez
c) some other phoenetic
d) all of the above.

My inclination would be a) but since Spanish no longer uses a cedilla (lazy b*ggers) it's not too clear to me.

He's well liked here. Don't know which commentators NZ TV used for World Cup 2006, but Hill was the main commentator for the Australian games.

He's well regarded here.

Caceres is from Argentina.

Ka serez is the way to pronounce it.

Thats the thing with Aussies and their sport. If you play hard, give it all you have and get results they will give you respect. The Knights/Kings were pathetic and rightly so the Aussies got stuck into them.
The Phoenix on the other hand have been good value this year. They are are well organised, well funded and well supported club. They have done lots of good things on the park as well. It is no wonder that hard nosed sports commentators like Slater are giving them credit where credit is due.
The Aussies always like the underdog....we have great support from them over the AFC affair.

Ta muchly - it's what most people say and does seem the most likely, but Engris speakers do have a habit of mangling names in other langwitches.
