How's about all Kiwi football supporters getting together and trying to persuade Sky or ESPN to screen English Football other than Premiership, same as Fox do in Australia.
When I went to the UK last May to see Sc**thorpe V Millwall in the division one play-off final, I was on the same plane as 6 other Millwall fans, 3 Scunny fans and 4 Burnley supporters (and god knows how many others who didn't wanna associate with us Millwall loons). The point is there is some great football coming outta England that we in NZ don't get to see.
The guys I meet on the plane, who are now Phoenix supporters, and yours truely are going over to the Gold Coast this year, just to watch are team if we get through to Wembley again, as it's cheaper than the trip back to the UK.

So come on admin, with all your high profile connnections, lets try are use the lobbying power of Yellow Fever to do something possitive to enhance footballs profile in Aotearoa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would love a match of the round sort of thing every week from Championship/League 1. That'd be mean.

ITV in the UK have a Sunday morning programme that does a round up of all the goals in all divisions and Play-off semis and finals are shows on Sky along with a big game from the lower divisions shown at least once a week, these are decided on by the masters at Sky, either when fixtures are anounced or when there is an interesting battle developing in any league.

And what do we get "American Soccer" ESPN don't even realise it's FOOTBALL not soccer!

I am downloading the football league show from the BBC, which has goal scoring highlights from every game from the Championship to League 2. It is available on BBC iPlayer if you are in the UK, although I am in HK

We get a few Championship games in Aussie and Championship highlights packages. Sometimes League 1, but not very often.

Wouldn't we be better off using that time getting some NZ football on sky?

not if no one would watch it.
I think the point of the original poster was that the quality of the football of the English lower leagues is sufficient, and the lower tier teams also have a few supporters to warrant some sort of coverage.

NZFC wouldn't tap into that market and wouldn't be a "sale-able" product for TV.

Shouldn't we lobby for a better league before the Championship?  Not that I don't want the Championship.

If anything is decided though, I'll sign the petition.

do you think there would be millions sitting up in the middle of the night to watch Sc**thorpe versus Bristol City??  I think with the hype around football in NZ at the moment, you would get the same numbers of viewers watching Auckland City versus Otago as you would Crystal Palace versus Doncaster

I'd love to see a football channel. theres a rugby channel, why not a football one?

Imagine it, watch the EPL,SPL, ligue 1, a bit of bundesliga, a few J league games, bit of mls, followed by some south american football.

theres plenty of stuff out there, and because NZ is a multicultural nation it wouldnt be hard to sell

I think that Bundesliga and Ligue 1 seem to be the big untapped markets. We have every other major league to some degree.... and MLS...

Isn't the premier league launching some 24 hour football channel in UK, possibilities of going abroad?

I would love a football channel though, that would be a dream come true.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Not fully sure of Sky NZ's coverage, but definitely Fox Sports in Aus has been covering the second tier of English football (i.e. Championship and when it used to be called First Division back in the late 90's) pretty much since about 1997.

ESPN & SBS had the Premier League rights back then and Fox used to show a game from the "Championship" each week, usually on a Monday afternoon (not live, but delayed).

Wasn't a big coverage but it was on.

These days, Fox will show a live Championship game each week, as long as it doesn't conflict with an EPL game. The EPL is Fox's priority (along with the A-League and Socceroos games it has rights to obviously).

Hope that helps in your argument to get coverage.

Although I would love to be able to watch football from more global competitions, the first priority is to get New Zealand football on the tele. The Waitakere v Canterbury final was the first time I had seen either team play. I would like to be able to follow the competition, know the teams and know the players, but without coverage it is hard to get in behind it, particularly as I don't live near any team's home ground. Getting people to follow their local team is pivotal to growing the game in New Zealand, in my opinion.

If Sky can now show high school rugby, they should be able to show our domestic football competition. Actually for that matter they should broadcast our women's and age group stuff too. Only after that is done should we talk about English championship or Bundesliga.

Or the NZFC could follow the Football Federation Victorian and broadcast at least one live Victorian Premier League match live from their website.

Great initiative, even for a bunch of Southern faries!

Blue screen, vidiprinter, young boys in the park, jumpers for goalposts, rush goalie, two at the back, four at the front, home in time for tea. Mmm.

I've taken to downloading MoTD as well for my Championship fix... the Beeb should sell that to Sky.

Guys, go to fbtz.com it is the place to be for football on the internet. Not sure if registration is open but when it is you should create an account.

But there is something very character building about listening to the BBC via Nat Radio on Sunday morning, only for the announcer's voice to fade into static just as it gets to your team's result.

Edit: Although with 1 pt for a draw and 2 pts for a win it didn't really matter much in the big scheme of things anyway - just had to wait for the Evening Post on Monday (if the paper boy delivered it)

I'd love to be able to see Championship games. I have 3 teams in the championship next season so i'd be thrilled to even have 1 championship game a week. Also agree about nz football, and a football channel.

There you go admin, most posters (excluding Frankie Mac who's wet spam anyway) like the idea of pressurising for lower English league football coverage as the Ozzies get and also we alll agree we need NZ league footy televised.

Come on take up the mantle, we need more football to relate to !!!

Bro. Tegal, why does it need cash?

What's needed is needed is a like minded Football fan (YF member) who knows their way round the internet/TV & media sites, to get hold of an email address for a programme planner at ESPN or Sky so YF as the NZ football communities voice, can bombard the target to get answers to our unanswered questions relating to what we the NZ public wanna see on our TV's.

A name and a postal address would be the second best option but knowing the publics apathetic approach to putting pen to paper, email is the better option and doesn't require the outlay of a stamp.

I am sure that the 30 emails they get from your lot will do a massive amount to change their minds on the matter.

For the record, I am all for lower league football on TV in NZ, but you have to be realistic - the market for it is tiny.  How many new subscribers will they get if they start to broadcast the games?  how much more advertising revenue will they get?  I think a more realistic battle is trying to get NZ football on TV, as you can at least produce the arguement that while it is losing money it is benefiting the game.
