does Des have the coaching certs required?

I've no idea but this is his Linkedin page!
https://www.linkedin.com/in/desbuckingham/details/experience/

Also I thought with new league ownership structure (APL) some of those more strict head coaching requirements for the Nix, were being removed??

Who knows but he genuinely seems to have a deep affection for NZ, and he may not be having many opportunities to use that pilot’s licence over India’s skies!

Yes, the reason why he  was "head coach" and Greenacre was "assistant" when they were both sharing the coaching duties was because Des had the certs and Chris didn't.

As to the other points, yeah I can see Talay leaving - hopefully overseas after winning us the toilet seat next year. Des has been burnt so many times from NZ football, would he even want to come back?

I also wonder if promoting Greenacre in the academy is preparing him for the first team head coach role?

I think if it's clear that next season we will be playing in Wellington and hopefully with a stable squad. Talay would want to see out his deal and have a last crack at the title while playing at home.

Couldn't see Talay going to WSW, personally. Too much of a circus at the moment. However, I could see him going back to Sydney FC when Corica moves on/is moved on. The allure of home is only deniable for so long!

Haven't seen this rumour posted yet, but apparently, Talay is linked to Macarthur - Milicic is supposedly jetting off to some European job soonish. Just one more for the rumour mill, hopefully.

That would be some kick in the baws. Next season his last with us  and likely our only chance to have a full normal season under him. Would hate to miss out on that. Bigger club? No. bigger budget and sydneyish, yes.

Reunited with Davila could also be tempting. Hopefully its just a rumour

Talay dosnt seem to me to be the type to walk out on a contract early. Would love him to stay long term but cant see that happening can see him seeing out next season then moving on. Honestly think had it not been for Covid he would have got us close to the seat.

He's always going to be a target, I also wouldn't be surprised if Sydney FC went after him with the season they've had, but he's contracted for next season so until he (or the team) starts signalling that something isn't right, I'm not going to worry about it.

Uffie's interviews are always so refreshing. Upfront, honest, says it how it is.
3 points in next 3 games!
Acknowledged the heavy losses, no excuses, 7 games in 23 days, academy/young players are going to be inconsistent, we lack depth. It is what is is.
Club has a rep for developing good youth prospects. We know were not Real Madrid making million dollar signings.
We can make money from the youth.
Heaps of praise for Sail and Rufer, Payne and Ball too.
Sotirio has been a work in progress and game time has helped his improvement.
Talay has always wanted to build a career and wants to show he can coach in a place for a long time, not in a rush, he wants to be overseas at a bigger club - I dont see him leaving unless a European club comes knocking.

NZ derby would be great, might help the rivalry, he doesnt like it though cos he'd have to be fighting for NZ players

Only gotcha would be he'll also want to win the league, if only to attract that overseas interest. He can win it with the Nix, there's certainly been glimpses of it over his term at the club, but I don't see him extending past next season unless he thinks that's the case, he might then go to one of the top three or four clubs in the league.

Is a real good listen. Recorded only 3 days ago. His interview starts at 8.30 mins in.

Lack of depth coming off the bench, to change the game a big issue this season. I see 3 of the subs last night Bidois, Manuel & van Hattum.

Good praise for Sail and also Rufer.

Never say never, but really seems Uffie will see out his contract. And yes he's looking to build a coaching career, in no rush. Aiming to have a good long stretch at one club, and then maybe ambitions to coach overseas. Different to Rudan, already at his 3rd ALM club.

Talay mentions Ange Pot as one experienced coach he took advise from in his early coaching days. Again along lines of, there is no rush if you want to carve out a proper coaching career. Look where Ange is now (Celtic), and next stop likely an EPL gig.

And certainly one thing Uffie likes about the Nix, is he gets most of NZ's young talent all to himself! Obviously he coaches a NSW ALM club (there are 5 of them) that all changes.

Well I did hear this rumour last night….make of it what you will.

Graeme Arnold gets fired, Popovic to take the Aussie Team, Talay to take the Victory and Danny Hay to the Nix.

Was pretty gutted with the thought.

Could well have changed under APL, but the rule used to be you needed a Pro Licence to coach in the A League as a non-Australian. Pro Licence isn’t offered in NZ so no New Zealander (including Danny Hay) can head coach a team. That’s why Rudan and Talay were chosen, as they only need an A Licence.

Arnold will almost definitely go unless they beat Peru, but Popovic doesn’t strike as a national team coach. You can’t build a team and have far less contact time than club teams. Anything could happen though

Nah, he’s a loyal guy and has a year left on his contract. Next season will be his first chance at a “normal” season based in Welly with the ability to actually sign players. I reckon he’ll stay on, try win the league, boost his stock and then head off overseas or to Aus for the big bucks.

Who coaches the all whites in this rumor of musical chairs?

Well if the AWs don't win the June playoff, apart from 2 mooted big friendlies against Socceroos in September, they won't likely play much again before about mid 2024, when thoughts turn to WC 2026.

Without the FIFA cash windfill of Qatar 2022 qualification, and NZF switching focus and it's limited finances to the Football Ferns & WWC 2023, any AWs coach will be twiddling thumbs for 18 months mostly. Hay could probably do both aka Ricki, if that above musical chairs happened. Though I guess the AWs gaffer will also take the U20s to their World Cup in Indonesia next year, as something to do.

What I heard (and I am not normally prone to hearsay) is that Talay had overseas offers but is not keen on heading away from Australia / New Zealand environment yet due to his family commitments.  This was not a verified comment - came from someone I vaguely know in Wollongong.

I don't gamble because that ruined my father's life. But evidence points to:

  • Our decent players will be leaving, as always, (some have already gone as soon as they could) and I doubt he'll be keen to spend a last season rebuilding from scratch, yet again
  • Rumour has it that he "lost the dressing room" near the end of the season. That's what led to Ernie Merrick quitting early
  • People talk about coming home as a positive, and it might be for the team, but Ufuk's an Australian and they don't tend to want to spend more time in this country than they have to.
The Victory are the most likely candidate based on what I've heard
