1: Greenacre and Ifill: Best imports to play for a NZ based Australian football team?

2: Have we seen the death of the 4 - 5 - 1 for the Phoenix and two defensive midfielders?

3: Will be be able to defend the first 10 mins at all this year?

4: Is Tim Brown no longer a first choice starter?

5: When will Lia get a start?

6: Are we starting to see some grit and character from this team thats been missing in the last 2 years?

7: Is Daniel now typecast as the perenial sub like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?

8: Costa who?

9: Are the Aussie media now going to give us props?

10: Leo Bertos: Johnny Warren contender?

11: Is Tony Lochhead starting to find some form?

12: Is Ifill a striker or another wide player in disguise?

Not important - Aussie refs won't give us any

My question is why do the Phoenix take so long to get going?  We've conceded the first (and very early) goals in every game so far this season (I know that's only three matches but my point stands muscular and tall).

definatly think 442 is the way to go now, its not like when we only had smeltz...

we played so much better in the 2nd half when ifill moved up front and the players not only had more space down the wings but more targets to aim at.

Ifill works well in the role he's given. Drops deeper or on to the wing. Greenacre is always right up on the shoulder of the last man so its no problem for Ifill to do what he does. His experience playing attacking mid should only be beneficial.

Right up there with Fred and George.
2: Have we seen the death of the 4 - 5 - 1 for the Phoenix and two defensive midfielders?
Sure hope so, McKain holding, Diego more advanced and Lia providing mongrel and urgency.
3: Will be be able to defend the first 10 mins at all this year?
I think the defence will have learnt their lessons by now.
4: Is Tim Brown no longer a first choice starter?
Ferrante > Brown and Lia > Ferrante. I sure hope so.
5: When will Lia get a start?
Sunday the 30th of August
6: Are we starting to see some grit and character from this team thats been missing in the last 2 years?
We've had a fair bit of that, but just not in the right balance with attacking style and productivity. This is definately the most well balanced Nix side yet.
7: Is Daniel now typecast as the perenial sub like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?
He has been since early last season. Does it well as long as Ricki drills a VERY clear message into his head. Don't faff around with it and you can be very useful Mr. Cortes
8: Costa who?
A bit of a shame really, the matchday 15 looks pretty settled. He'll have to work hard to force his way on to the bench, even more so with Jiang Chen coming into the team.
9: Are the Aussie media now going to give us props?
A couple more good results to solidify us in the top 4 and they'll have to give us respect, the Kiwi media too.
10: Leo Bertos: Johnny Warren contender?
Without a doubt, Ifill too.
11: Is Tony Lochhead starting to find some form?
Reserving judgement on that, he better be ready for when the AWs qualifier comes around.
12: Is Ifill a striker or another wide player in disguise?
Both.
You know we belong together...

I sat watching the first half thinking this guy shouldnt be starting anymore as he is such crap and wondering what our options were for left back.
The 2nd half was the best he's played since season 1 of the Nix and if he performs like that every week I'd be happy to have him starting.

A dog with a bone :)

When we next play against any team* with that c**t Robbie Kruse.

I'd support him getting a start before that, but my point is made

*(I say any team because there's no guarantee the Roar will keep him after Murdocca returns from injury)

Nah there were some class players in the early Kingz.  News will remember their names.

2: Have we seen the death of the 4 - 5 - 1 for the Phoenix and two defensive midfielders?

Umm, I think tonight we played 4-2-3-1 and Ferrante and McKain both sat in the midfield, so no.

3: Will be be able to defend the first 10 mins at all this year?

I wouldn't count on it.

4: Is Tim Brown no longer a first choice starter?

Is Ferrante doing any better?

5: When will Lia get a start?

Good question.  See answer to 4.

6: Are we starting to see some grit and character from this team thats been missing in the last 2 years?

I don't think we've been short on character.  Short on quality maybe, and this year's recruitment seems to have sorted some of that out.

7: Is Daniel now typecast as the perenial sub like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?

Yes.

8: Costa who?

Costa who must come into the squad at the first sign of injury surely?  Or who will be somewhere else next year for certain.

9: Are the Aussie media now going to give us props?

Yes.  Heard Andy Harper on Newstalk ZB talking to Murray Deaker today and even he was positive about the Phoenix.  Especially the fanbase.  Yay Andy.

10: Leo Bertos: Johnny Warren contender?

Early days yet, but let's hope so.

11: Is Tony Lochhead starting to find some form?

Yes.

12: Is Ifill a striker or another wide player in disguise?

Wide player.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

It's worse than that....

The Phoenix have played 45 games in their history.

There has been one nil-all draw.

Of the other 44 games, the opposition has scored first 31 times, and the Phoenix have scored first just 13 times.

Not yet. Ibrahim for the Kingz probably takes that out atm. Keep it up and they'll overtake him though.

4: Is Tim Brown no longer a first choice starter?

Hopefully not. He isn't good enough anyway.

8: Costa who?

Barbarouses.

9: Are the Aussie media now going to give us props?

No. Not ever. The unprofessional c**ts.

Three for me, and two for them.

Have they ever?  More importantly will the non-Wgtn NZ media give us props?

Supplementary question Mr Speaker:  Can we crack another >10k crowd at the next home game?

Right - will leave Ricki and the lads for the first bit.  Let's burn a few more rainforests and dead dinosaurs for the second bit.

I just crunched some more numbers on this...

In the 31 games when the opposition has scored first, the Phoenix have won 5, drawn 7 and lost 19.  In other words, in only 16% of games (5 out of 31) when the Phoenix have gone 1-0 down, have they come back to win.

In the 13 games when the Phoenix has scored first, the Phoenix have won 8, drawn 3 and lost 2.

It pays to score first!

Anyone remember these two games? Took me about 15 secs to remember them.

First correct answer (no googling) gets a huge* prize.

Adelaide away last year when we lost 6-1 and Smeltz scored in the first 3 mins

One of them was against Adelaide, although neither of you have the right game. But 2B is on the right track...

The other game was played last season, it was away from home, and our opening goal was an OG.
