Pretty sure he is now to old to be a Youth player in the 23, let alone a youth squad member who has to be younger.

Jacob Spoonley. Position: Goalkeeper. Date of Birth: 03-03-1987
So he has just turned 21
Plus, since we no longer need to cover for the AW's when they are away for internationals we don't need 3 keepers.
Age 16 21 (must be 16 on 1 January in year the Youth League commences), maximum age is 21; must be no older than 20 on 1 January in the year Youth League commences
So f we were able to get a youth league team this year he would be able to make it in
Where did you find that ? I was looking for it the other day for Football Manager.

after a brief search I found the same details on the FFA website:"Age 16 21 (must be 16 on 1 January in year the Youth League commences), maximum age is 21; must be no older than 20 on 1 January in the year Youth League commences"
YOUNG Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Jacob Spoonley has been released from his contract to allow him to pursue regular playing opportunities.
Spoonley, 21, signed a two-year deal with the Phoenix in July last year on the back of a stellar performance for the New Zealand under-20 side at the 2007 World Cup in Toronto.
However, with first-choice Phoenix keeper Glen Moss and All Whites No 1 Mark Paston in the Wellington squad, Spoonley had only limited opportunities to prove himself during the teams inaugural season in the Hyundai A-League.
Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata said the decision to release Spoonley with one year left on his contract had been a tough one, but was made with Spoonleys best interests in mind.
Jacobs a great young talent but he needs to play and the club is very conscious of that.
Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert also had big raps on the young shot-stopper.
From a personal point of view and from a national team coaching point of view, I think Jacob has a fantastic future ahead of him and playing regularly will allow him to develop his game and further enhance his prospects at international level.
The club was working on Spoonleys behalf to secure an overseas playing opportunity for him.
Jacobs future could well be at the Wellington Phoenix in two or three years time and thats something wed love to see happen, Herbert said. But right now hes got to be playing its as simple as that.
Weve considered all the options and we feel that playing overseas would be best for him at this stage.
Spoonleys season with the Phoenix had helped to significantly improve the young keepers abilities, Herbert said.
For any young player its a valuable experience to be involved at a professional club and Jacob has certainly grown as a player during his 12 months with the Phoenix. That significant development has certainly been borne out by his performances with the current New Zealand Olympic team.

maybe his replacement is stuart Webster on the soccernet website http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team?id=8352&cc=3436
If we sign a third keeper it will be another youngster... unless Paston goes.

Did you watch the back end of the Knights last season? Paston was absolutely immense - equal to or better than Moss was for us. Not over rated at all. You can't say he's crap based on that one game he played for us.
