Great to see these lads in the Olywhites  squad

and whilst this could sit in the all Whites thread, it's good to have some Phoenix news to talk about

so, any thoughts on the benefits/disadvantages for the Phoenix?

and could a few big performances help any of these lads with their Phoenix careers?

edit - cheers WillyB   - I've never liked Olywatsits as a name anyway

I see Jeremy Christie is also in that squad. Any chance we'll see him in a Phoenix jersey one day? He had promise, but jumped ship from the Knights and faded from view.
Maybe with the right coach - Ricki - he could finally deliver on his early promise.

I think you mean Jeremy Brockie as Christie is in a 'Nix shirt.

From what I've read in the NZFC thread Brockie has hardly set the world on fire and would be a mile off getting a run in the 'Nix.

its good to see the young kids of the phoenix involved, gives them match action and lets rikki and the coaches see them in a competitve game and with a view to a starting place in the phoenix team one day if they are good enough, last year charlie adam was a youngster at gers until pre-season when he shone in every single match during rangers pre-season in south africa and now he gets a regular starting place as he is an awesome player, same thing could happen to one or more of these players.

also i was impressed with Barbarouses  when he played against ccm in the last game of the season there. (my text just changed for some reason!)

the most likely to gain anything are Draper and Spoonley- lift profile, gain match experience

and Old??  (a miraculous series of performances might, perhaps?, maybe?, save his bacon)

Costa's seemingly already on his way to an a-league career (and possibly more)

Nelsen, Killen/Smeltz and someone else. It really depends on who they want to take.

Would be great if the lads made it to the Olympics.

Not so happy about losing too many Phoenix players though. The Olympics are on during the A-League season...which means we would lose Barbarouses for sure. IF they wanted three over 23 year olds then the obvious ones would include Smeltz, Lockhead possibly Moss. I would prefer they took Nelson, Elliot, Vicilich or Mulligan etc.

Quiet a few OZ A-League clubs will be weakened by having players for the Olyroos.

Sorry to the Phoenix boys for missing the Olympics be we need you first!!!!!

Hadn't thought of the Olympics/A-league clash  bugger, like you say hopefully (if we make it) they'll take o'seas based AW, i.e - the 3 you named
