With us releasing Cleberson and George, Elrich suspended, and the All Whites in Vanuatu I think I'm correct in saying we have 14 guys for the game against Sydney.  Trying to make up a team based on who we have I've come up with this:

                                                     Moss

Old                              O'Dor                      Dodd                           (suggestions)

Ferrante                       Aloisi                        Johnson                         Daniel

                                   Coveny                    Felipe

Subs:  Barbarouses, Draper, Brownlie, Lia

No reserve keeper.  Couldn't think of a suitable replacement left back.  I'm also relying on Aloisi being fit.

Any thoughts on whether I've got the squad right, and particularly on those fullback positions.  (Not sure where Draper plays as we haven't seen him this year.)

A challenge which will test the depth of our squad.

Your maths is absolutely correct - I was doing the sums last night when Elrich got sent off and praying that Johnson or Lia didn't get a card to further deplete us.

Fairly sure they have to play a reserve keeper, he's a separate sub from the other 3 normal subs. Spoonley gets a bench spot. Again.

Johnson would probably have to go into the left defender, and Lia into the mids no?

Have to be Lia at full back, wouldn't it. Although, according to various reports we might well have signed at least one new player by next week.

I picked a good week to come down for a game , didn't I. Half the bloody team missing! Maybe I should bring my boots.....

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Would any new player have time to have all the paperwork signed off by Saturday though?

According to one site I read this morning (can't remember which one), we are just waiting for FFA approval on a new signing. So I'd assume he'd be available on Saturday.

Spoonley is off to Vanuatu. Moss should also be playing for the All Whites in this game. He is the form N.Z. goalkeeper.

Draper's a striker, and I still say Daniel should play left back.  He's meant to be familiar with the role, and I assume plays like Cassio does for Adelaide.  Lia slots back in to midfield.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Agree try Daniel at left back.....you need a natural left footer there. Old at right back. I hope O,dor has got over his teeth nose surgery. Also hope that Aloisi is fit.

Not looking great for the next game. With a makeshift team against Sydney, who are now statrting to look good. Don't want to be negative but geting a point would be an OK result.

The boys will need all our help. SO BE THERE AND BE LOUD!!!!!  GO PHOENIX

I think the players who come in and get an opportunity will be doing their utmost to prove themselves.  May be a better performance than some expect.

one thing for sure, its going to be a long 90 mins next saturday..

we all after get behind whoever plays and not get on their backs if they start to struggle to a Sydney side who are getting stronger by the week..

Nope, you don't *have* to play a reserve keeper AFAIK.

Fair enough, but the 4th spot is just for a reserve keeper and you can't use it for a normal sub.

As I recall Rufer helped bring in the keeper sub thing in the 2nd year of the Kingz in the old NSL.

you dont have to have a keeper on the bench but you do have to nominate which player it is that would play as the keeper should the need arise.
The knights had a situation last year were because of injuries they had two keepers on the bench out of 4 players so had to nominate which was the keeper and which was the outfield player. This works in reverse. If all 4 subs are outfielders then one must be nominated as keeper

I think the best thing would be to use this week as a chance to try 3 at the back.  (It's all we've got available back there anyway).

So that should give us an alright team of:
Moss (Or whoever's not playing for the AW's)

Dodd, Old, O'Dor

Johnson, Aloisi, Lia
  Elrich, Daniel

Coveny, Barborousas

Bench:
GK, Filipe, Brownlie, Ferrante

I reckon we need to give the young kid a crack.  It has worked for Q'land so why not roll the dice. Also hoping that Elrich escapes suspension, as the commentators suggested may happen.  Otherwise use Filipe.

Not too bad a team really...

Think it's a fairly safe bet that Elrich will be gone for at least one week.
When I saw Brownlie coming on last night, I wonded whether Ricki was giving him a run 'cos he's thinking of starting him on Saturday?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I think I've got it!

------------------------MOSS------------------------

----OLD-----O'DOR------DODD-----DANIEL------

--------------ALOISI------JOHNSON---------------

FERRANTE---------FELIPE---------COSTA-------

---------------------COVENY-------------------------

Bench:

Spoonley, Lia, Brownlie, Draper/New Guy

If Felipe still isn't fully fit I'd start Lia in his place.

According to football manager Costa is left footed, although I seem to remember in real life he was leading on his right :(

Maybe Lia should start on that side (or perhaps at FB in place of Old), but I think it'd be nice to give Costa a run on the wing as he'd get more room out there to use his pace (ala Zullo and Kruse). Even if we do get a new signing I doubt that Ricki would start him straight away. Daniel is the obvious choice to cover left back.

Old was average at left last time the AW's were away.

Put old at right back and Pistone at left back...

Subs:Spoonley,Old,Brownlie,Draper

Daniel is a left back, thats where he played in Brazil. Lia looks like he would go well at the back. Felipe was our star at the start of the season and is a top player. Ferrante deserves another chance, actually offers us great passing play (didnt realise how good he was til he was gone). Coveny is a really good player and give costa a go i say as brownlie looks very very average.

Old didn't play too bad had bit more confidence
Ferrante Daniel Filipe both attacking and skillfull.
Coveny Ok
Barborousos for extra pace and desire/agression on left flank, again you just have to look at Kruse and Zullo.
Johnson as back up if Aloisi isn't fit.
Ricky has to start Filipe he was our star player before his injury (assuming he's fit.

If Ricky stats Barborousos I rekon he will get a debut goal at home

I think we all know after the CCM debacle that O'Dor cannot play at fullback.

Rees Dodd Old O'dor (id like to see lia at rb but what you gonna do)
Ferrante Daniel Lia Aloisi or Johnson if they are fit
Felipe Coveny not barbarouses not yet mabye as a sub

I think start out 3-5-2 and see if we hold out then move to a more attacking mode as confidence and familiarity grows and if we havent conceded....some will not have played together much.  I dont mind if its boring as hell for 45 mins and 0-0 at break...the turn around and play back into aisle 22.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen
