I WAS DISGUSTED TO BE STOPPED LAST NIGHT BY SECURITY AT THE GATES AND MADE TO WAKE OUR SLEEPING TWO YEAR OLD AND SURRENDER OUR BUGGY . THE REST OF THE NIGHT MEANT BETWEEN MY WIFE AND I TAKING TURNS TO HOLD HER THROUGHOUT THE GAME, GREATLY DIMINISHING OUR INVOLVEMENT IN THE GAME NOT TO MENTION HER COMFORT.
WHEN I ASKED SECURITY WHY THE BUGGY WAS NOT ALLOWED IN I WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT KNOW BUT THEY HAD BEEN TOLD NOT TO ALLOW PUSHCHAIRS IN.
i FOUND THIS TO BE INCREDABLY STUPID ESPECIALLY AS CHILDREN AND FAMILIES HAVE BEEN ENCOURAGED TO COME ALONG (CHILDREN ENTRY FREE) AND THE FACT WHEELCHAIR BOUND PATRONS ARE ALLOWED IN. WE WOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPY TO OF STOOD IN THE WHEELCHAIR DESIGNATED PLACE. BUT WERE NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO DO THIS WHEN I SUGGESTED THIS TO SECURITY STAFF.
I BELIEVE THE PHOENIX MANAGEMENT SHOULD DISCUSS THIS WITH STADIUM MANAGEMENT ESP WITH THE CLUB TRYING TO ATTRACT FAMILIES AND THE NUMERIOUS SUNDAY 5PM KICK-OFFS THIS YEAR.

Madhouse, being a bachelor with below zero ambition to get married, probably means I'm completely unqualified to answer.
But really, taking a sleeping two year old to a football match...
Dunno...

I can't believe you'd discriminate against wheelchair-bound people like that Madhouse.

To the point, why don't you try writing a friendly email to the phoenix management, I'm sure they're proberly disgusted to. Especially when it's not exactly sell out crowds.
This is proberbly some rule that has been bought from rugby matches (not taking a dig at rugby, but it's proberbly true)

they dont let 1.01 metre flag poles in either - so what do you expect.
Where were you planning in putting the kid in the buggy whilst watching the game though - parked next to Ricki on the sidline?

Thanks for the u -tube but we were quite willing for the stroller to be searched. but they didnt even search our bags all they wanted was the babies stroller. Ive sent a e-mail to the stadium trust so that response will be interesting whats the Phoenix management e-mail address Will I find it on the official club site?

I had over 20,000 places I could have put the stroller but would have been happy withthe designated wheelchair position Im sure there were some parks available but yeah next to che-Herberta would have been great!

The problem may have been that any seat other than a wheelchair spot would most likely have been considered a fire hazard. As for it being in a wheelchair spot - problem is it might set a precedent and more people will show up with strollers, meaning not enough for wheelchair users - which could cause some VERY bad press.

Haha indeed it is.
Somewhat irrelevant though - who in their right mind would sneak Tui into the Ring of Fire?

We had this issue with the stadium and we cannot do anything about it as they make the rules not only for us but all codes at the stadium. You will need to call the stadium and they will give you an answer. It will have to do with safety as you can have strollers if you are in a lounge but not in the aisles. If you don't get a satisfactory answer please email me at tonyp@wellingtonphoenix.com and i will take it up with the stadium.

Next time Madhouse, go the Asian way.
And don't be fooled like the Yanks were prior to Pearl (they thought the average Jap couldn't fly a plane, as they had no balance due to their mothers carrying them on their backs when they were babies).
Therefore, your kid can still become a mean fighter pilot if they want to.

Thanks for your comments Ive just e-mailed the westpac trust about this issue and I believe they surely can accomodate strollers at this point even if it means giving them an isle slightly to the side of the main support surly they would be in no-ones way there. When we start 20,000 + to games it might need to be looked at again.

I understand this has nothing to do with the club or security but its still sad to hear that someone is restricting paying customers from their enjoyment and doing this based upon a stadium rule.
Kids can attend football in push trolleys all over Europe and there we have serious safety issues, volataile crowds and violence. Why someone at this stadium, that in all honesty is sh*t for footbal in the first place, can come up with any reason to stop a paying customer entering a 20% filled stadium because they vring their 2 year old in a pushtrolley is mindboggling.
The fact that the stadium keep on insisting on it despite the club talking to them about it is even more awful to hear.
I think something is seriously wrong with the mentality here.
The stadium is there for the spectators and if we have wishes its their job to accomodate them. Its not their job to put up as many obstacles as possible and make it hard for people to enjoy themselves.
Rules about what sticks that are allowed and god knows all, whats the point of that. And no it cant be in the name of safety when all stadiums across the world can handle this. Then it has to be a problem with Wellington and such a thing can very easily be corrected if the will is there.
Securitys attitude also need to change from suspiscion to service.
They are there for one reason only and that is to service us. No other reason at all. No reson beside this.
Thats something they do not think themselves, they are there for crowdcontrol they state. Safety are taught how to assist with enforcing rules, how to evict people from the stadium.
Thats completely wrong and its makes safety think that crowd control is their main job, they should be taught one thing only - service.
Customer is king. Without us paying customers there are no football. Security is today not a help but an obstacle to Wellington Phoenix and I really belive that the club has to set down their foot before they take up to much space and start putting people off.
They are there for one reason only, to make this experience as good as possible for the paying customers and to be honest they dont.
Bring in some serviceminded hosts instead of security. Football mums are as good in stopping people from running out on the pitch as 120 kg security are. Its worked in most European countrys so why should we not follow.
Its cheaper for the club, brings a more pleasant experience to the fans and contributes to more paying customers.
In the really remote chance of the sight of trouble we might need people like the ones we have now, but since we havent seen that they are just making our experience worse and I see no need at all to use them to the extent we do. If the club want to have 4 of them in a reserve ready to break up any disorder be my guest.
Let them handle the VIP departement until then and see how long they last...
I really hope the club will take action on security and their percieved feeling of power and usefulness. At the monent they are causing more harm than good for the club.

Maybe you shouldnt be blaming the stadium, maybe you should have a word with http://www.osh.govt.nz/
These guys make the laws that the stadium have to comply with in order to be allowed to function. Goodwill cant circumvent the law, and in a worst case scenario, there was an evacuation, a pushchair is @ a major disadvantage, and an obstruction to other patrons. If anyone was injured its the stadium who carries the can for letting you in, not the club.
