I posted a topic yesterday about having an FA/Carling cup in the A-league the resposes were well informed and insightful (I exspect nothing less from the fever members).  So how's this for an idea.

New Zealand vs Australia but both teams made up from only A-League players, best of three (extra time and shoot outs to end every drawn game) or a best of 2 games aggrigate seris like champions and europa.  There are many great players from NZ in each team to make us compedative Smeltz up front, Burtos, Maglich, Rohas, sigmond, paston/moss pity barbarousos went to russia (bad move in my opinion one more season and he could be playing in the championship with the likes of Chris Wood)

This wouldn't tax teams too heavily and would draw massive crowds.

Thoughts????

We would get hammered.

It would be an Australian side very close to their A team, and a New Zealand squad with the key players missing, and very limited squad depth.

No way there are heaps of Australiain players playing in other leagues in fact I can't think of that many Soccer-roos in the A league.  Kewell is done Emerton done,   Yeas Oz would take us but it would build depth in NZ football

Also we use to get hammered by the aussies in League look at us now world Champs but this isn't something I thought of thinking that we would win, I mean I exspect us to lose but still be compedative, this is something I thought of to bring something more to the A-League, something more to football in New Zealand now we won the rugby world cup football in New Zealand will once again go on the back burner of nutral sport watchers this could offer them a chance to watch football at a higher level that the A-League, and playing Oz's best A league players are only going to make our boys better, you only get better by playing people better than you.

yes all above mentioned aren't ellagavle to play as they don't play in the A Leagueand WOw I never new those players played for those teams like wood playing in birmingham, you see thats the problem with arrogant t**sers like these few, you think you know all there is to know about football proably caused you played goal keeper at some stage of your life.  So when someone has a idea to make something more of the A league you gay lords have get on you high horse and spout your knowledge which if you weren't so much like woman you may have read that I suggested these matches for A league players only, some Jenious says it the nix verses the soccer roos and you flame me for telling him to do some research and go on about kiwis in europe.

w**kers the bunch of ya, instead of critising like the bunch ofwant wits you are how about contributing.  Oh that wouldnt work because you won't be able to be orginal if you contribute to an idea that has been put forward.

It was a suggestion some cat (rollo) tells me its nix sans our aussies and imports vs soccer roos which is clearly wrong  now you all point out kiwis playing in europe why?  come on why?  I said this woulld be a comptition for a league based players only why flex your football knowledge telling me where nelson plays, why?

I know why, because you are a supercillious bunch of soloplistic nobbers who can't even contribute with constructive critism.  I pity your girlfriends if you had any.

The only person who had anything decent to say was the person who pointed out there may not be 16 kiwis in the A league, now that is a good point, I didn't consider that I assumed there would be (there probable is but I don't know) I was putting an idea out there I will leave you now to your sad live of hanging out on a yellow fever forum just waiting to sh*t on anyone who has an idea you on your best day couldn't come up with.

Look sorry to above I saw a bit of red mist and was a little harsh, I apologise for calling you w**kers and it is I who should pull my head in a bit,

Sorry, I mean it.

But I feel people we should be a little better and contributing not flaming here otherwise people will end yp feeling like I just did and not come back.  I was just suggesting a concept and Rollo I apologise for the tone that may have come thur and all those who responded to me, I probb started it all.

Once again I apologise, I have chosen to apologies and leave my post rather than delete it completely because through my knee jerk post I feel I have a couple of point.

Once again Mr_tza apologises for his bad form.

Lets work together to make the A league the best league we can down here, can we agree on that, give me a yeah.

ALright.  Mr Tza hasn't endeared himself but he does have a point that reasoned argument hasn't been put forward.  Even when it has (pwf) it needs some snarky comment on the end.

Also Mr Tza.  Please proof read. I'm almost tempted to think you are a troll by the way you manage to get this right "supercillious bunch of soloplistic" but "Jenious" wrong.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt for now.

Everyone play nice.  I'm in a banny mood (ProDirect ordering is down).

Nice idea, but there aren't really that many kiwis in the a league,as others have pointed out. As long as kiwis are foreigners in the league it'll make any such match a joke.

So to summarize this would be a good idea and develop NZ football if NZ football were developed enough in the A-League. And that's a problem seeing as NZ players take foreign slots in all A-league teams except Phoenix, difficult for kiwis to get in.
Another NZ franchise might help but the FFA probably not so keen and we need another consortium of rich guys to bankroll it...

Essentially yes, but it highlights the frustrating paradox of development in that there are heaps of cool things we could do to develop football in NZ if only football were developed enough in NZ to do them.
At the moment I think we are best served developing our own interior football infrastructure as a ramp to the Phoenix and the Phoenix as a ramp to other A-league/overseas clubs.

It's an idea, only it would have to be an All Star style game with "A-League Aussies" vs "The Rest of the World XI".

That could work and a few of the kiwis like Smeltz, Wee Mac, Moss, Paston, Rojas etc would be shoo-ins for the "rest of the world" squad.

If they hosted a game of that ilk in Welly I'd definitely head along. It'd be quality.

"Would draw massive crowds"?

Where?

That's a better idea than NZ vs Aus, because you would get players like Broich, Solorzano, Henrique, Hernandez etc into the team as well. I would definitly watch a game like that, and I would guess that the RoW XI would smash the Aussie XI, because most of the marquee players are overseas imports.

You'd probably still want to limit the number of marquee players in the teams

If we are going to do a SOO or All Star type game we should follow the lead of the NRL's All Star game and do an Efniks V Others.

Basically, If you can't pronounce part of your name you qualify for the Efnics.

If something like this did happen, how about a team from each of the Australian states fielding a team of players from that region (eg NSW, Queensland) and New Zealand fielding one team. If there are shortages on players then more can be called up from the state leagues and the NZFC
