I think the team needs an 80's style training / bonding montage ..

it always seems to be the turning point in the movies.. shortly after the inspirational speech which we've just had, and the rock bottom moment (losing to Perth? - I think that's warranted)

Any ideas for songs for the montage scene? HAS to be 80's.

Disappointing start to the season, to say the least. Bottom line is, as others have said, that we have a good squad with players in there that other A League clubs would love to have signed.  The players are there, but for whatever reason it's not working. Ricki's got a big job on to turn this round and I hope he can do it. The players have to front up but it's at times like this that you find out how good your Coach really is.

Let's start off by giving the Bling a good beating on Sunday.

We all stayed positive lasy year.
We all stayed strong last year,
We were rewarded with effort every week but last, but we understood.
This year I just cannot understand the lack of effort, lack of basic ability (especially from hyped signings).  I bought a membership because I believed in "being one of the team" but at the moment the team is not meeting it's obligation to the fans to at least play football.
Bad decision making in regards to the coaching structure during off season is obvious, admit the mistake and rectify or the 4k crowd Perth had will look huge.

With the amount of money in Aussie chasing A-League franchises they will take our license without a second thought.

36 games 5 wins (3 against Perth) we now must wake up to the fact that this is at least as embarassing as the Knights/Kings fiasco we all derided.

Geez, it always amuses me to listen to Kiwis whinge on when things get tough. It's the old All Black syndrome - where they win easily most of the time, and expect to win every game. When they get beaten, Kiwis go crying to Mum that's it's not fair, boo hoo hoo. Get over it. Kiwis have absolutely no pain threshold when it comes to sport, unlike just about everywhere else in the world, where you gain a sense of perspective through experiencing the ups and downs of the real game. It's character building and allows you to appreciate the good times even more.
Try supporting Swansea. We've had maybe half a dozen good years in the fifty odd I've been supporting them. And there is never any question about supporting them. You turn up and support, because it is in your blood, it is your tribe. It's a given. Harden up, or go and support the rugby.

sh*t, Dai. Half a dozen good years. You're lucky!

Tend to agree, support a club like Swansea, Hull (sorry Tigers) or the mighty Partick Thistle and you'll begin to appreciate what disappointment is all about and appreciate the good times when you get them.

As for the Nix being as embarrasing as the Knights? Don't think so!

Can't get over those fans and the team going on about it being only early days and its a long season.Do the maths we are a quarter way through the season already.
Cannot see any positives from the 5 games so far.
Will be there this week but can see us getting hammered on current form.
Certainly when you look at that overall record 5 wins from 36 games you cannot justifiably come up with a credible defence of a record like that.
Just 2 home wins since we started, think we have a right to complain.

I'd be very surprised if Ricki's position hasn't been discussed. Also the fact that, 5 games in, the CEO has actually posted on here to ask us to 'keep the faith' doesn't look good. Does sound a bit like the dreaded "Vote of Confidence". Jag2008-09-22 08:36:44

couple of suggestions, "midnight train" by journey, with the relevant lyrics "don't stop believeing"

"nothing's gonna stop us now" by starship

"the stroke" by billy squire

plenty more but those are the ones i can see working well for a training montage.

Come on you Phoenix, Lions and Warriors have been through worst - it will come

The concerns are more than just the results, the concerns are the way we've been playing... given the quality of the squad we look directionless and lacking leadership. Whilst we have lost three out of five - without several fantastic stops from our 'keeper we could easily have conceded another goal per game (avg) whilst in attack we have looked aimless... something needs to change and fast.

Having said that - I'll be bringing two newbies with me this Sunday and hoping to see us turn things around! (esp as one of them is an Ocker and wanting to support the Bling!) lol.

What I don't hope to see is the same performance, same lack of structure, same lack of leadership and the same reliance on Mossy to keep us in the game.

It starts now.

It's an ok statement, after all,  "Deadly" Doug Ellis isn't chairman of the Nix!!

Someone just mentioned it's not just the results but the style of play. That's simple, if it isn't working at the time, then it's time for the captain to step up and tell his players to change it.

Time for Mr Durante to lay the law down as Captain and sort a few egos out.

Time for us fans to turn up to the games too. Last year we were like a 12th player to the team, this year we're more like a water boy. I shall have to cheer louder, me thinks.

The Final Countdown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And TEGAL
Arsenal's French right? But seriously we've developed their next superstar...WALCOTT!!!!! Bur TBH i'd rather have a team of imports that can play classy football and win, than "develop" english football. Same applies here in NZ. Its NZ Footies responsibility to fund junior teams and its their responsibility to help the nix do a development team. The development team is where we overload it with kiwis, not the first team.

I'm never gunna stop supporting the phoenix but its not easy at times to sing for 90 minutes about a team that doesn't look like they give a toss at time. maybe you should give them a bit of a motivational talk Tony cause it doesn't look like Ricki ever does.

I understand your frustration, we are all feeling it, I just dont agree with how you express it. Its a long season I dont think its fair to write off the coach after 5 games. and i dont think the perfomances have been 'dire' either. we've been there or there abouts in terms of gettin at least a point in all but one of the games so far. RH has proved himself in other jurisdictions,  NZK, allwhites, so give him a fair go. if we're still on the bottom in another 6 or 7 games ill be the first one championing his depature.

Sorry to be argumentative, but it really isn't a long season. I'd like an explanation as to why Siggy was bought on in the 86th min when we were 1-0 down. Apart from a niggle, I just can't get my head around it.

We bring on a defender because we need fresh legs and we don't have a striker who can come off the bench and be a game breaker.

All opposing teams have to do is shut down Smelty and they effectively pull all our teeth.

Take last night. We started last night with two up front - Smeltz and Hearfield, and guess what? Within minutes we were back to a lone striker with Hearfield dropping back behind the "golden booted" one.

Others on this thread have suggested we've been "there or thereabouts several times this season'.

How many times were we in the same position last year? And lost!

What's happened to the much-heralded imports who can't seem to rise to the occasion?

It's a bugger being a fan. If I didn't care about the team, I wouldn't bother posting.

But, let's be honest - is the current Nix team playing any better than the cobbled together Phoenix squad were last year at this stage of the season? I don't think so!

And by the by, am I the only one who thinks it is commendable that the club CEO posted here so soon after the defeat? I bet the CEO of Portsmouth wasn't on the fans forum straight after their  thrashing to try and cheer the supporters up and let them know what's what.

When are the Phoenix going to start to play how they did in pre season,so far i havnt seen much that has impressed me at all,& the way they are playing we are going to be branded as the AKl Knights all over again,& the crowds are going to stop turning up for any games. The players just dont seem to have any urgencey & dont seem at all interested.Come on now Ricki,i thought you spent money on buying new players to tighten up the back four etc, well we certainly havnt seen any improvements so far

Good on Tony P for posting what he did, but saying "we're hurting, we're concentrating on the next game and we're right behind the Coach" is  not exactly cheering me up or telling me what's what.

To all YF, this is the time we all stick together as one group. Yes it is disappointing and frustrating but this is sport you have winners and you have losers. It hurts to lose I can tell you it is very painful. We are all hurting here in Perth and I know you are as well.

Ricki Herbert is the coach and will turn things around.  He has the 100% backing of Terry and myself.

Sport is a cruel game and if you follow it long enough you will always end up hurting more than feeling the elation of winning but it is that elation that we all wait for and thats what keeps us going. As a club we are remaining positive, yes we have not won a game but we are now focusing on Sydney. A win and things will change. We have the squad as we saw is the pre-season cup we just need the confidence to return which it will.

So the negativity stops now and we start the positive vibes for Sydney and 3 points. Come next Sunday we will have forgotten about the past and focus on the future.

I am proud to be associated with Wellington Phoenix FC and have watched this club evolve from nothing to where we are today.  It is now for all of us to stay strong and remain positive.

C'mon the Nix

Yeah I am, what I say is for the good of the team and , can't you read the signs up in big neon lights 3 games ago. I don't get any joy out of calling someone a , but it fits.
Look at it this way, the Nix are OUR team, and someone is f**kin with our team and his name is Rick.

So even after a PSC final, then a draw and a loss into the season, you were caling for us to sack Ricki?? Thats either a personal vendetta or stupidity...

Last season was good, this season started off well in preseason, but have hit a (very) bad run 5 games in. Not time to sack the coach just yet. Let him turn it around, judge at the end of the season,if not beyond.

So that's what you said  Tony P.  first thing on this thread. Its interesting the range of reactions,.. from strongly supportive of Ricki and the players irrespective of these first five results...to extremely anti- Ricki and anti- the players who have had poor performances.
I'm in for the long haul and I know a lot of others, some of whom probably haven't said much on here are in for the long haul too...sure I'd love to see better results,I'd love to see the Phoenix deal to each and every opposition, home or away, but I guess by going through this pain we will certainly appreciate it when the Phoenix come right.and they will!!!
and surely it is early days yet...
We're a diverse bunch of opinionated, committed and passionate Phoenix supporters and the good thing is Yes!!!! at least we do care enough to voice our opinions on this forum ...take heart from that at least Tony P and Terry. See you all Sunday.

If this doesn't sort itself out soon, there will no incentive for Smeltz to stay, plenty of other title challenging teams would like him on their books...

He says he likes the Wellington lifestyle but he has family in Aussie and the thought of another misfiring season might be enough to make him leave
