I think the only weaknesses in the side apart from steven old
were the strikers. Not to say that Coveny and Smeltz aren't good
players because they are. Especially Smeltz who at the moment looks
classy. But with both of them starting and with brownlie on the
bench i cant help thinking that they are all the same style of
player. Why not give George a go? He's played in the first and
second leagues in Portugal with Santa Clara and has a good
goalscoring pedigree. So why not give the little brazilian a go?
What do you guys think of our strikers?

I just watched Old go through the back of Fatnandez. Quality.

He got exposed a couple of times on the break though, and took a
long time on the ball. Not saying the didnt do some good things
though.

old had a very poor game, but the team is fairly limited in its
options at right back,

i think Jeremy Christie is up for it or steven O'Dor. Both solid
players.

christie would worry me as much as old and o'dor is a centre back
but an exciting prospect none the less

I've just watched the first fifteen minutes and Old has been
excellent for a converted centre back. He's mostly up against
Allsopp who is one of the fastest players in the league, and a
large number of Aussie fans were impressed with him.
Just get the feeling we are holding some past grudges and not being independent enough.

the strikers generally impressed me on sunday, altho i would like
to see George given a go, possibly used in the same way as Felipe
was on sunday as a tempo-lifting sub with about 25 mins to go if
Felipe is starting
Coveny especially was good on sunday, altho he did take a back seat to smeltz, his play in the air was impressive, doing well for a man of his age and experience, i can see him as more of a possesion holder and taker with the goals mostly going smeltz's way

personally i have no grudge with old. All i know is what i saw and
there were to many parts of his game and to many mistakes yesterday
to say he had a good game. I hope he improves and if he does i will
be one of the first on this forum to congragulate him. but first
game in the season and we are talkin about a CONVERTED centre back
that worries me.

yeah i thought old was impressive in pre season but all due respect
Mr News he was average saturday but thats just an opinion

I think he already has improved (from what I saw last night) since
the pre-season games. And if he gets more game time I'm sure that
will continue.
We are just lucky to have so many strong players that the poor lad looks outclassed.
Edit - ha Xcellent, just the opposite. What game were you watching him play on Saturday?

Old looked a bit unsure of things to me. Needs more time in the
position to be the match of Lochead.
