He seemed okay at practise this morning - seemed to be running okay; wasn't being rested, or favouring a leg, but I'm no expert .....

It was after the training where problems occurred.
The Physio was looking at his leg because he said it was sore. Crump pushed on a part of his knee and Paul seemed to be in quite a bit of pain.
He is going to have an injection tomorrow in his knee (Not sure what for) so he can do a fitness test.

Paul did ask what would happen if it was still sh*t.
He was told he would still play.

Anyone know whether Caceres will be back for Sydney?
Permalink Permalink

Yes I wondered about Caceres too. Will he be back for the game and did his liittle one arrived safe and sound?

If ifill is sore at game time i bet they will just inject him up and tell him to do his best. It could be the last game after all

TAB paying $1.15 on Cortisone.

After this game (& hopefully the next), I hope he'll be having some well deserved rest!

I don't think we have a thing to worry about. If my memory serves me correctly Reece crowther came on for Paston really early so as long as he doesn't have to play i think we'll be sweet.

Crowther kept in all three matches. We now have Reddy in goal, and that makes a world of difference.

Remember Siggy had the collision with Pasty early in that match. He came off, Crowther came on, and we were 3-0 down at halftime (eventually losing 3-1).

Sydney have became our bogey team, with four wins in a row against us. In all three matches this season against them, we have failed to put our best foot forward.

As for this week, could we employ similar tactics to the Gold Coast game? Finals football is tight, and we'll be hardened from going overtime in consecutive games. If we play it right, we're a chance

As for the team, I'd bring back McKain in place of Siggy (tough call on Benny)

Keep the rest of the line-up unchanged, Siggy as defensive cover, and Costa to drop off the bench.

Help please if possible. I have family recently moved to London has anyone got any web sites they can go to to get a live feed to watch game. I have read elsewhere references to sites but no detail. I presume you can get commentary on the ZB site but pictures would also be good.

Check listings on MyP2P.eu for dodgy streams, usually there is a Fox Sports one. Or www.the-afc.tv if you don't mind paying for better stream quality.

I've gone off iraqgoals, it has failed more often than not recently.

I'd keep Sigmund. IMHO he's as good as McKain and has shown he can handle pressure at the highest level of the game. I'm more worried about Hearfield, who has looked defensively fragile in the last two games, and to a lesser extent Lochead.

No Caceres for the game, he is still away. Only one change to the squad, McKain in, Costa out.

I think it has been fairly evident that Ifill has been carrying an injury / injuries for the last 5 or 6 games at least. Hopefully he will get through another 2 Games and bang in the winner in both!!

Does anyone know where tomorrow's Phoenix training run is taking place and whether it is an open  session?
Permalink Permalink

Interesting poll on the A-league home page, 42% back the Nix to win in normal time and 25% back them in extra time. Perhaps the aussies have finally figured out how awesome we are?

Do you mean in Sydey?
They will either be training at the SFS which will be closed or they will be at Sydney FC's training pitch at the Macquarie University.

But given its a finals training. SFS is most likely.

In case anyone needed more back up and reasons why we're going to win this weekend I've done a little (bias) research on our games against Sydney this season...

Our first game was in gameweek 4 (end Aug) when we came off a 1-1 away draw with the Roar.  Our team consisted of Crowther - Lochy, Siggy, Dura, Manny - McKain, Ferante - Bertos, Diego, Ifill - Greenacre. Lia, Daniel and Hearfield all came on from the bench. We lost 2 nil. Diego was dragged early and we played very defensively.
So we were in Aus for a second week in a row, played negatively and we had nowhere near the team we have today.

The second game was again away and this time we had come off our amazing 6 nil thrashing of Gold Coast in gameweek 11 (end Oct).  Before that Gold Coast game though we had our run of 6 draws and were winless in 8 games.  Our line-up was getting closer to today's but there were a few key differences including Manny still being at RB rather than DM.
We lined up Paston - Lochy, Siggy, Dura, Manny - Brown, Lia - Bertos, Ifill, Daniel - Greenacre. And Barbarouses and Hearfield were used from the bench.
But Paston was injured early, when the score was still nil nil.  We went on to lose 3-1.

For the third match up (in gameweek 18 - Dec 12), Paston was injured so again Crowther was in goal.  Of course this was the shocker in Palmy where Brosque (?) fell over and 'won' a penalty.
Muscat was still suspended for the match and Greenacre was also out. It was McKain's first game back too and it was basically Hearfield's second game at RB. The previous week we drew 1-1 with Melbourne at the Ring of Fire.
Starting team: Crowther - Lochy, McKain, Dura, Hearfield - Brown, Lia - Daniel, Bertos, Caceres - Ifill. Only Costa made an appearance from the bench.

Sooooooo
  • It's been a long time since we've played them (over 3 months) and since that last game we've won 8 of 11 (including finals) with a relatively consistent, and different to what they've seen, team set up (both line-up and tactics).
  • Our current keeper has conceded 10 goals in 11 games.  The one who played against Sydney conceded 11 in 6 (if you include the one where he came on early)
  • They have not played against us when the moose cat has been destorying anything that has come near him at defensive midfield

I reckon it all leads to a Phoenix victory...

Decent analysis, however as we saw with Newcastle coming here form sometimes doesn't matter. Finals football is a whole different ballgame.  Newcastle were average at best against Gold Coast, but coming here they put up a good fight and could have won the game.  It will be the same against Sydney, but I'd like to think we have the quality all over the park to win it.

Clad in his Phoenix t-shirt, with a flag and a billboard declaring he'd carry bags for finals tickets, one fan was pleased to see his team in person.

Ahmad, who declined to give his surname, was also at the airport waiting on his flight to Dunedin.

"Obviously I'm hoping that they'll do well," he said, adding that it was finals football and anything could happen.

Medial ligament strain? They're a bugger as they hurt like a knife in the nuts when you twist the wrong way, but with some mind altering substances (painkillers), you can usually get through.

Generally advised to avoid impact though, so I hope Paul is doing swimming, hot spas, ice packs, and whatever else to help his knee get ready for Saturday.
