can anyone explain to me why the last goal by sydney was not offside? or has the rule changed recently?

I don't think people are over the second goal, Welly Pom. It might be a while before people look at the legitimacy of the other goals, but considering what else the officials missed, you're probably on to something!

Yes, I thought it was offside too! By that point I had given up any hope of a  fair game......same old Sydney......

I think it was just onside. Brosque seemed to be level until the ball was played through.
ill upload a pic soon.

Thats just as the cameras swung around to him. But I think that it was the benefit of the doubt.
My call is. Close, but not offside.

I should be a video ref.Stefan2010-03-14 19:48:31

The ball was already played at the moment of the picture.

Second pass to Bridge.
Cant be offside. And Bridge was behind Brosque when the ball was played in to him.

Yeah, wasn't offside. And the ball over the top when our defence got their line completely wrong was close - not clear offside anyway.

Quite obviously not offside.

The pass from Brosque wasn't offside as it went backwards but I'm not at all convinced that the ball through the defence wasn't offside.  That pic does nothing to argue either side considering the ball can't be seen.  We only got one look at it as well at the game and it was a poor camera angle.

When Daniel played the ball to Dadi he was clearly onside but he was offside from a deflection from a Sydney defender (Stephen Keller?) but as I understand it a deflection from the other side doesn't constitute an offside does it?

Regardless of whether we were allowed a goal that shouldn't have stood theirs (Payne's secondd) was in the 30th minute and changed the whole game - Dadi's was mere consoloation.

Dadi's definately not offside, but I'm convinced that Bridge's goal shouldn't have stood.

Just as a deflection off a defender wouldn't put an offside player onside. A deflection off a defender wouldn't put a attacking player, who was onside when his team-mate passed the ball, in an offside postion.

Why?

The offside call was so close that even if he was slightly off you can't blame the linesman for not seeing something that is so close on multiple replays on tv. But missing blatant stuff...

like say, Byun's hand ball....

Byuns was quite obvious.

Byun should have been yellow carded for that.  Then there was Payne and one other Sydney piece of trash handled as well.

And I speak not of Bolton.

They only gave us one replay of the original pass for the fourth goal, and based on that replay it looked offside to me.

Not that it made any difference in the long run.

You are right, he was onside.

This thread fails big time.

Three for me, and two for them.

Like I said, it looked offside from the one replay they showed us. But it was a bad angle, and they only gave us one look, so don't want to argue this.

Not that it made much difference anyway.

Time to get over this goal. It isnt clear that they were offside for the original pass, (I would be totally hacked off it it was us and we got called back),  our defence got caught napping, and the last pass was definitely onside, so it is a fair goal. let it go

Offside.,definitely, by about half his body. In practice though this is difficult for the linesman to pick especially if the defender is advancing in the opposite direction.

From where I was standing, and my vision was "slightly" impaired, it was offside.

Maybe I should open my other eye next time...

Its marked on their feet anyway, right? In Stefan's image Brosque's feet are in line with the defense so its onside.  My bigger question is why none of the defenders even bothered to try and chase them, though I guess with Hearfield off the park there wasn't anyone in the backline with enough pace to threaten those two.  You have to admit it was a brilliant move for both of them to break the defensive line.

That's what happens when you start throwing people forward.  In a finals game 4-1 is as good as 2-1 at the final whistle. We scored two goals in a finals match, and considering how outplayed we were for most of the match that ain't bad.

No it didn't, it went at least 2 metres forward... but as Stefan notes, and shows in the picture, Bridge was behind the passer, so that's not offside

[QUOTE=Stefan]Second pass to Bridge.
Cant be offside. And Bridge was behind Brosque when the ball was played in to him.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

This is correct. Feet onside, but leaning forward = offside. Basically any part of your body bar your arms.

If the linesmen could not see two obvious hand balls, how could we expect them to spot a close offside??
