Excuse me, but weren't we playing away from home tonight. Thought so. Then FFS why did we play Felipe, Daniel and Elrich in the same side? They are loathe to track back and exposes or midefield and defence.

I would have thought that with an inexperienced centre pairing at the back RH would've given them more help in front of them.

One defensive midfielder, two central midelfielders (tack your pick) and then two of either Felipe, Daniel or Elrich providing some ammo for Smeltz.

Sod playing pretty football - it's ugly when you get hammered 4-1.What matters is winning.

Despite my signature, Felipe was poor.

"At one stage Wellington had five corner kicks in the space of two minutes but couldn't find a hole in the opposition's defence".

Guess it sums it up.

I say tackle him in the face.

Old had to start, we had no fit centrebacks - Clebo out with hammy, Dodd suspended.

RH had no choice.

I say tackle him in the face.

Would've asked for trouble. And the three at the back would have been?

Exactly, he is a solid footballer.
Also been part of a winning championship side, so he knows what its about and what it takes.

I say tackle him in the face.

Why play three at the back against the league's most potent goalscoring team - a formation we haven't played all year?

Playing away from home is when you want to give them nothing and nick something on the counter.

I would have prefered:

Moss/Paston (either/or)
Christie Old O'Dor Lochhead
Brown
Elrich Johnson Ferrante Daniel
Smeltz

Defending solidly and nicking something on the counter is a nice idea, except that Adelaide are better on the counter (we're not bad either), but I just felt like we were going to concede a goal nearly every time Adelaide got into our half tonight. You never quite had the confidence that one of the centre backs would always be there to clean up.

You really don't like Aloisi do you.
I think he's good there, instead of Johnson

You're right, for a 'star' player he's less than stellar IMO.

3 at the back? we can't handle them with 4, we should be looking at 5.

My thoughts exactly, we should look at playing four backs and a sweeper

I also question the bench we had yesterday. Johnson and Brown probably should have both started, and why's Coveny in the mix at all right now? He's offered next to nothing as a forward with the exception of the game against Perth. When he came on the corner of the Fever Lounge where we were sitting groaned very audibly.

By starting Felipe,Daniel and Elrich we went into the game in attack mode. Against the best attacking side in the league at home......well HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!! 1-4 what did we expect?.                                                                                                                                          How about help shoring up the defense with a couple of defensive midfielders, Brown and Johnston would have helped. Then try and play getting everyone behind the ball and attack at set plays. We would be rapt with a boring 0-0 draw away.
Now we have to go to Perth and play for the wooden spoon and to make matters worse our next home game on the 17th is against Sydney, who we can beat. But we will be missing our coach and 5 of our better players on World cup duties!

yea, interesting we didnt play two defensive midfielders as we have in other games in front of an inexperienced back four. Cant agree with playing three at the back though, think we needed more in front of the back four

Yep.I'm with that.

Especially if you play Felipe, Daniel and Elrich (all who struggle to get behind the ball) in the same team away from home! Madness.

It meant we essentially only had two in front of our back four as the aformentioned trio were on walkabout up the park.

Play Brown in front of the centrebacks in that holding/defensive midfield role - win the ball and distribute.

Play Ferrante and Johnson in the middle of the park ahead of him (both have great engines and more pace than Aloisi and Ferrante's passing game is very good).

Then Elrich and Daniel playing wide right and left with Smeltz up front.

We've played two holding midfileders all season until this game and we've still conceded a lot of goals.

Doesn't matter how many holding midfielders you play if your defence is that bad.

Brown should've been starting, he was superb last week. I would've had him in for Lia.

you can have all the tactics in the world, but at the end of the day, if your team:

1. Continues to surrender possession so easy.

2. has no pace.

3. your midfielders (captain) do not track back, because he cant...

4. does not communicate....

5. full backs who do not want to get forward.

6. the defenders panic everytime the ball comes near our box.

Basically, RH had a few months to put this team together and we are all expecting to much to soon, RH is no fool and if he is getting it wrong in 12 months then yes lets have a go then!!.

He knows we need a commanding centre half who talks... he knows we need full backs and he knows as a team we are very pedestrian.

If i have one concern about RHs reign, it has been is "want to play attractive football" vision. I obviously agree with this, but lets make us very well organised and difficult to beat first, the attractive football needs to be built on solid foundations, and we ahve not got this.

I think our fullbacks do usually get forward, especially Lochhead.

They weren't themselves yesterday though. Think Christies confidence is shot after the CCM game at home.

My impression was that it was the team tactic not to push the fullbacks forward, to provide Old and O'Dor with more help. Didn't work in the end though.
