With the announcement of the All Whites squad as being entirely made up of NZ players, including Nix players who will make up our side v Waitak?
I presume the AW guys wont play so take out Moss, Mully, the sea monster, Plodder, Drapes, Costa and Boom Boom.
So this leaves of the guys who haven't been starting regularly
Johno
Daniel
Troy (the senior player) Hearfield
Manny
Ferrante
Kwasi

So then after this rather convuluted process some of our key starters will play against Waitak? Here is my team if this happens and presuming we keep with our 4-3-3
                             Pasty
   Manny        Dodd       Dura        Lochy
            Ferrante    McKain     Johno
              Kwasi      Daniel        Troy

I realise there are no strikers in that lot but I dont think they will risk Smeltz getting injured and Covs old legs prob not up to it

Bit annoying that Costa/Draper will probably end up getting no minutes.

They are 2 of 3 strikers in the AW squad, they will get some time

Pretty sure I read that Costa is a non-travelling reservefor the AW's so he's highly likely unless someone is broken.

I think that was in regard to him being a non traveller for the Oly- Whites but you are probably right Obe1

What are the chances of this game being televised?

I say tackle him in the face.

Ah, no.

It's just a run for the reserves like a Wednesday arvo against TW or Hawkes Bay.  They don't show competitive NZ matches let alone a training run.

Shame really....

Good way to promote the footy/NZFC/Waitak United/World Club Challenge

Why does this country continously miss opportunities.....National Stadium - etc

For a run for the reserves someone is putting a bit of cash into advertising up here. Plenty of ads on radio sport. Lets hope for a nice day.

Laugh at Waitak talking it up like it means something.

I will be really disappointed if Costa and Draper don't get at least a full game. We have got two meaningless games so why not give them a full match?

That's the idea, but if he keeps being left on the bench I think we'll be lucky to still have him living in NZ in 18 months

Yeah, we really have to play Daniel soon or we risk losing him for the All - Whites, which would be a real shame

They might win.

They didnt have any trouble scoring against TW

With Paston in goal, they probably have every chance

I think Loz's point is 'Meh'.  Who cares if Waitak win, it's a meaningless game.

I think his issue, like Baiter is Waitak talking it up like it's the NZ championship.

Yes it's terrible isn't it. Promoting a game of football to get a good crowd and make a bit of money. Shocking.

Promoting it is one thing - placing a meaning on it that isn't there seems unscrupulous.

How specifically are they doing that?

Wonder if they promote by stuff like signs on railways stations and centre city like the Phoenix?? Or just the odd newspaper and radio ad

Can anyone confirm the game is 4pm Kick-off? Trying to organize my weekend. That would be gold, means Big Boys Toys in the morning!

It's a meaningless exhibition game for us, but for Waitakere it's a big deal. I can't blame them for promoting it as such, and I hope it pays off for them in terms of attendance and income.

On-field result, however...

Meaningless: To have no meaning or purpose.
So why do it?

As a favour for Waitakere, for whom it's far from meaningless. Waitak are using it as a warmup for the Club World Cup, especially as practice for a potential match against Adelaide. The only benefit the Phoenix get out of it is a bit of exposure north on the Bombays (and an excuse for a decent road trip for those among us going up, including myself )

That being said, "unimportant" would have been a much better choice of words than "meaningless". My bad!

Weren't they 2-0 down at one stage? How much of that was fitness?

I doubt Waitak will be anywhere near as fit as the Phoenix.

and it lets some of the fringe guys get a run which they perhaps would be getting any way if we had the youth team like the other clubs.
