The Russian connection
After leaving BNZ, and before starting Westpark Global, Mr Hunt worked for Moscow-based businessman Adyl Khidirbekov and his Emerald group of companies. Several of these ventures, with Mr Hunt as a director, went sour. Emerald Hotels Gisbourne and Emerald Farming (2002) were liquidated last year.
Companies Office records show Mr Hunt replaced accountant Kevin Whitley as a trustee for Mr Khidirbekov. Mr Whitley told NBR he ended his association with the Russian over concerns about where Mr Khidirbekovs funds were coming from.
Mr Whitley said he was sent to the UK in late 2005 to conclude a property joint venture deal with funds provided by Mr Khidirbekov.
Their partner in the UK, however, had other ideas: He basically absconded with the money, right from the day it hit the bank accounts, Mr Whitley said.
Not sure if relevant at all but just FYI.
For anyone who has followed Central League football over the past 5-10 years, these are the guys that loaded money in to Gisborne City AFC with a 'five year plan' to make it to the Australian proffessional competition. When I say they invested money into the club - I mean they went to incredible lenghts to have a League winning team [which never happened]. They literally flew 90% of the squad down from Auckang/Hamilton every weekend in the Russian's private jet. I remember being told that guys like Kieran Jordan, Lance Eason, Michael Utting - to name a few - were being paid up to $1000 per game - No sh*t!
For those of you who don't know how that ended, Gisborne City AFC folded along with these Russian guy's other bussinesses and now they have one team who play in Gisborne's 3rd Divison - affectively a masters league. While the money was invested at the club, they lost a lot of talented locals who were fed up with it because the first team players never trained but the locals never got to play.
Obviously not the most 'sound' type of bussinessmen.
