If you see Terry around town, grab the nearest kid and tell him to ask Terry how to be the next Shane Smeltz...

Seriously, it's great to support a club with an owner like this.

Definately. Have to remember we wouldn't even have a club if it wasn't for him. Props to Terry S! valeo2009-08-01 16:07:48

Walking the dog on a Sunday morning past kids kicking a ball around the local  park in their Phoenix kit pretending to be their favourite Nix player - pretty cool.

We are indeed blessed to have an owner like Terry.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Still want to see Morientes in a Phoenix kit though...

The Nix has certainly made a difference to the lives of me and my family, and in the end I know that is down to Terry, so thanks very much to you Terry, and long may it last!  We're in for the long haul as well!

Bit puzzled about his comment:  our memberships are the best theyve ever been

perhaps Ticketek crazy phone message had some basis then, and the phone really has been ringing off the hook!!

Here is the bit about Terry, rather than having to go to the site

THE OWNER
TERRY SEREPISOS
(WELLINGTON PHOENIX)

PEOPLE are always asking me why do I do it, why do I own a business that doesnt make money. But you dont do this for the money. You do it to be part of something special. For me, I wanted to make a difference to New Zealand football. When a kid comes up to you and says he wants to be the next Shane Smeltz, how do you put a price on that? The mums and dads, the kids, the people in the street who come up and say youve made a little difference to their lives, thats what you do it for. Of course its still a business, and obviously its been a tough year in the financial world. Theres a few billionaires in the A-League, and to them it probably doesnt matter that much. But to the multimillionaires, things arent as comfortable. At one stage, I did ask myself whether I wanted to keep going, but you know what? I went into this two years ago with my eyes open, and Im here for the long haul. But its less about the New Zealand thing now and more about making sure were every bit as good as the Aussie clubs. Each year the A-League gets bigger and better. I had a chat to Paul Ifill this morning, and he reckons were more professional than a lot of the clubs hes been with in England. Im pretty proud to hear that. But at the end of a day, its a business, and even though things are tight, were hoping to lose a little less this season. Weve sold more corporate boxes, and our memberships are the best theyve ever been, so if the team has a good year we could do all right. To own a club doesnt just take a lot of money, it takes a lot of energy. But the buzz is still there, and thats the main thing.

He is just great, the best thing that has happened to NZ Football for yonks

A bit of a newbie to all of this but my 2 cents worth:

As I've said before.  The Nix have done more to raise the game's profile in this country (and city) than anyone since the '82 All Whites.

The Nix are the creation of Terry S and the team he has assembled.  Thanks to Tery and team my kids have experienced the euphoria and passion of following a team in the beautiful game (as I did back in 1973 at WHL).

That is priceless.

Also it does look like the Owner and the CEO have a good working relationship - that in business terms is also priceless.

Thanks Terry, Tony and all the Nix crew.   There might be a reccesion on at the moment but come Aug 16 it will fade into the background for the next 7 months (unless Westpac Stadium put up the price of their chips and hotdogs)

fantastic support..now all we need is for FFA et al to make it happen.  Clubs "would die" for this level of vision and unwavering suppport.  Grand community gesture.

To be completely cynical: Terry pays $1 million a year for extremely good PR and the adoration of the likes of us. I'd call that a sound business proposition.

There may be a question of offsetting tax as well, but that said:

I've meet him in the Phoenix shop and he was genuinely interested in our view of best times for sunday games, given we had our kids in tow at that time. (this was several months back).

It was actually about 3 days after we re-signed Ifill, and he was clearly delighted about this.

I daresay that the key to the timing of this publicity is in the paragraph:
"The Phoenix's A-League licence expires at the end of June, but the club has a year to secure a 10-year extension. Mr Pignata said negotiations were continuing but Football Australia was supportive and he was optimistic an extension would be granted before July."

And it's partly about sending the right signals to the FFA for the negotiations with AFC?

Could be an even better "business proposition" with more sponsors helping, when you see the shirts of some of the other teams ours are positively bare.

Where are the local/national companies, we do play games in Australia dont we ??? what better way to get your name out there.
