G'day,

Just sitting in Wellington airport ready for the long flight back to Perth after just 47 hours for my first trip to NZ. I had to come on to the forum and say a big thank you to all the Yellow Fever and more broadly, the Wellington Phoenix fans.

It has by far been the best away football trip I have ever been on. I had a fantastic time at the backbencher, four kings and wherever we went afterwards. I met not one rude or inconsiderate Phoenix fan, and having been now and experienced the Phoenix at home, it would be a crime of the highest order againt football if you get kicked out of the league.

Thanks again, and I'll definitely be back.

Wellington is wonderful!

Cheers,

Rhys.

Thank you Glory-Rhys - we travelled to Perth for the game in January and (despite the result from our perspective anyway) we enjoyed the hospitality very much (too much??!!)

You have an amazing group of fans over there ... their sustained chanting (non stop) from the Shed was something to hear.

I have just been reading an article on the West Australian site by Jonathan Cook .. well put I thought.

Any Sandgroper who spends 5 hours on a plane to come here to back their team is Good People. Look forward to doing it again next year. :)

7 hours to get to Wellington, almost 9 to get back (actually more because Qantas just moved me to go home via Sydney instead of Melbourne..)

Who is Alex Caceres?

That's what I was wondering? Relative of Ritchie Herbert maybe?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Awesome effort by yourself and your fellow 'gropers... as you can appreciate, I can't say that the result was a shame - but it was a fantastic occasion and all the better for having a few of you over here too.

Come back.

Anytime

Ouch! Thats commitment. Glad you had a good time despite the result. Is why i love this club  and the A league in general (except NQF with their "you can come into our territory, but dont wear your colours else we will glass you" attitude).

Hmmm? That was a Furries supporter who said that, wasn't it? I don't have anything against GCU supporters because it's unfair to pick on three people.

Hi Glory-Rhys,

I'm a recent football fanatic, making a trip to Wellington for the NZ vs. Bahrain World Cup qualifier last year. That was the first ever time I have flown to a sporting fixture, and I said to myself it should be the last for some time (finance issues).

However the occasion that Wellington puts on is superb, and generally speaking the behaviour of the fans is incredible. I loved the fact that most of the home fans were respectful of and friendly with the visiting fans. Sure there was "banter" but without that it would be boring. If it got personal or violent I'd have been put off for life.

Since last November I've considered going to South Africa, Melbourne, and back to Wellington, but declined due to cost. I happened upon some reasonably priced flights for the March 7 fixture though, and I'm off once again to Wellington.

I'm with you mate - Wellington is awesome, and the fans are awesome. Long live friendly and respectful sporting rivalries. They have drawn me closer to football than I ever thought I'd come.

And hope you come back soon to visit!ahmad2010-02-22 17:05:42

Well, 12 hours after leaving Wellington I'm back in Perth.

Honestly can't wait for the fixtures for 10/11 to come out so I can plan another trip to Wellington!

Also forgot to say thanks for the drinks for those who bought for us haha!

Egan is pretty keen to get the supporters group over to wellington but its hard, they don't see the value in going. they'd rather drive a bus all the way across Australia so they can drink the whole way...what a waste of time lol.

1. Arrive several days early
2. Drink until the flight home

really pleased you enjoyed the trip, and the game was so close, the Perth team did you proud, I particularly liked your keeper, he had a wonderful save first half. outstanding keeping from both teams, cost me a fortune as I backed over 2.5 goals on Betfair (well $20 bucks anyway), the buggers should have let a few more in. Otherwise a magic day wasn't it?
The game could easily have ended up with a different result
