Nope.  That's why the Aussies have changed the import rule to four for the A-League...  As an Aussie club you allowed 3 non-Australians and that's it for the ACL.

That's tight.  Then we're into convincing a swathe of young Chileans/Brazilians to become NZ citizens.  So what's the rule on that?  Does FIFA stop you swapping from your country of birth?   I mean there's a few Kiwi born, "foreign passport" players out there.
To quote from Ricki's article"Add to the mix New Zealand born players representing other nations at junior level, Winston Reid in Denmark and Michael McGlinchey at Celtic spring to mind"

im not 100% on the FIFA laws but im pretty sure you need to make a declaration before you're 20th birthday if you've played junior rep footy for another country.

if you havent played at all i would assume you would need residency (3 years?)/a NZ passport gings2007-05-11 22:54:59

Another obvious problem with these ideas ?  In the Asian Champions League you are allowed 3 foreign players.  As we're going to have around 10 kiwi's and/or 10 Aussies we would have to recruit half a squad to enter...

I don't think that would be neccesary...I think we could possibly do something like in the A-league where the Phoenix are allowed to ave  New zealanders in there plus Australians....So I don't see why it can not be the same in the AFC..As the Phoenix are part of the A-league and the A-league is an Australian competition I don't see why the Phoenix can not be included...But that is for the future...

And Like I said before, it would help if we could make a " Donation " to the AFC.

it would suk that if in a few years the phoenix dominated in the comp and all the over teams werent even close to how good the phoenix woulde be and we sent some aussie teams in that were hopeless than that would giv the a league a bad reputation.

That would suck, but winning the league and being stand outs as a team would open doors to competetions.
