so Miles has a different opinion to some (ok most) on here and that's a bad thing? he's one of the handful of sports broadcasters that gives a toss about football. Unlike Tony f-king Veith, Darcy Waldegrave, Andrew Mulligan amoungst others.

In this case it is - Piney exposes his OPINION to be very superficial and yet he and Alex Bell-end still go on about it.

Might as well get JordyBean on next week to talk about how the Nix are destroying coalface footy.

Just cos he's a Hammers fan and had a radio show doesn't make him a good podcaster for the Nix or the A-League.

Agree with Miles that we lack creativity in the midfield, lack pace, Leo's not playing well. Greenacre needs some support and the team have a lot of heart. And that we need a team full of manny muscats.

The difference between Jordybean and Miles is that Miles likes the Phoenix and wants them to succeed.

Yes, and the situation re the squad is? And the solution is?

The similarity between Miles and Jordybean are that they both like flogging dead horses. Journos might think this creates interest - I just think that being a negative prick is the easy way out.

I agree we lack creativity and pace and would love to have some, however people do not remember we had Terry as owner until a day or two before season kick off.

Pacy and creative players = a lot more $ than work horse midfeilders / terry as owner with no money = what we have now

just listened to this - seriously Piney, dont bother with this Alex Bell guy.

Its generally run so badly over the phones with connections changing.

Bring back fever poddy, and sack Alex Bell - not bothering to listen again.
Jeez this is crap

Interesting isn't it?  What do we expect from the podcasters?

If I want to get anything about the EPL then I go the Fighting Cock and occasionally other sites - where I have confidence that the podcasters are very familiar with the subjects they discuss.

Alex is clearly new to the A-League so I cut him a bit of slack, but do think that when there are more knowledgeable people like Piney and Fred, Alex might have the good grace to acknowledge when his opinion might not be quite on the button/justified.

Miles - guest commentator, Nix fan of some years ... but still knows f*ck all about the A-League (and the situation at the Nix).

That's annoying.

Alex Bell just said that players like Kosta Barbarouses over-shadowed Ifill at the Nix last season... dear god...

Context was Bell didn't realise how important Ifill was to the team, and said :

"I didn't realise how... maybe he was less of an impact last season because of Barbarouses and Rojas, and there was a great deal of really good individual talent at the Phoenix."

So much fail.patrick4782011-12-01 11:40:46

Oh dear... "Let's look ahead to the weekend now. it's Melbourne Heart, away, on Saturday."

I hope Piney tells Bell how many mistakes he is making.

According to the pod we only played well as a response to their criticism, Tim Brown must have listened to the pod because due to the criticism his performance was an improvement from Adelaide game.

IMHO we played our best football against Melbourne, but since we got a win everyone is back on the bandwagon. Bullion2011-12-01 15:52:44

I love that Alex, Fred and Stuff have jumped on board and produce a poddy it is great initiative but some fact checking etc would be good as this undermines all the good effort.

Agree, it's a bit poor. They could pick someone off here and at least there would be a little more accuracy. Fever poddy FTW

That is known as being facetious.

Alex did acknowledge he was in the wrong (he obviously reads this thread and therefore improved his observations this week.... a bit).

Still - a bit more homework required (esp the Ifill/Kosta/Rojas argument).

Is Alex Bell in a broom cupboard speaking on a hands free mobile or something?

I know that it is being really REALLY picky on a free product, but the sound really put me off.

It sounded like Fred was doing the dishes at one point.

#9 podcast is up.

Much better technically than previous....though Fred kept wacking his microphone.

Alex asked why the Nix could'nt replicate their great form against Sydney when they played the Heart.

Simple really....Sydney got their tactics wrong. Everyone else in the league knows that the Nix prefer to knock the ball between the back four and attack wide down the flanks. The Nix pose little or no threat down the middle of the park. If you press them hard and defend in numbers out wide you can quickly shut them down.  Sydney did not do this, the Nix got lots of ball through to Ifill and won convincingly.

In contrast the Heart defended out wide very well. With plan A negated the Nix reverted to their normal hoof ball. It was only when Sanchez came on and started to do something creative centrally that Heart were put under more pressure.

well I guess the Phoenix are f**ked then - if everyone in the A-League knows what they like to do, and zinidane has outlined how to stop them I cannot see them getting a point all season.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

I've actually given up listening to these. Other than Piney it's complete crap. Right idea, poor execution. And Alex Bell is officially clueless.

Its no longer a problem.

Only just listened to #9. Begins with "We'll be looking at the New Zealand leagues with the Wellington Phoenix and the A-League" then proceeds to ignore New Zealand's league.

Episode #10 - Again, nothing on the ASB Premiership. This is particularly poor given that Auckland City (ugh) had a recent trip to Tokyo...

Heck, even just listing the results would be good.

And to end on a positive note - Piney is awesome.
