Well I'm new on this site so G'day everyone. My name is Matt and I'm a big phoenix fan; I've watched all their games so far on tv and hopefully when I get home I'll see a few games live. I also am a big Man Utd fan and support the YHM as well.

Anyway in light of what is a pretty important game tonight I thought we should just take a moment to forget about our position on the table and to reflect on the positives so far this season, which there are many. Here's my thoughts:

1) The fans. As a football fan it's such a joy to see a great crowd of support at the cake tin. It's such a refreshing change to the last couple of years where we've at times struggled to get a thousand fans turn up at North Harbour stadium, even though Auckland is nearly half of NZs population. Not just that, the crowd look like they are having a great time and enjoying themselves, and getting behind the players. Support is the foundation to a sucessful club and if we continue to get 10,000 along each week then the results will come.

2) Attacking football. Yes we are second to last and yes our defence is still very fragile but it's great to see us play an attacking brand of football, kudos to Ricky. I never thought I'd see a NZ based team able to create and score so many chances, yet before last weekends game we were second overall in the goals scored!  I also think we will become even more potent as the season goes on and players gel.

3) NZers standing up. It's great to see some of the Kiwis standing up and taking the oppurtunity to showcase their ability in the A-League. Smeltz has been terrific this season, Moss has been impressive in goal and Lochead has been good at left back.

4) SOME quality signings. Ricky Herbert has done well to bring the likes of Felipe, Daniel and Dodd over. I've been particularly impressed with Dodd, he has been very good so far. I'm also really looking foward to seeing Elrich getting back to fitness because on form he's a very good player as well.

Those are some of the positives so far this season in my opinion, I'd love to hear your guys thoughts.

Great to see some positive posts for once. Theres been too much doom and gloom in here lately. I agree with all of your points.

I never thought i'd see the day where

a) A NZ team scored goals consistently
and
b)An NZ team had trouble finding decent defenders

It's really quite odd.

Excellent post, Under the fans heading can I add "Addicted' to it? This fan has for FREE given us Cell Phone users something to treasure and show our support for the team.

Also add the guys who started this site up - no not a kiss arse move - but we needed a focal point and to be honest the official site sucks!. This site has given us the focal point.

The Back Bencher, The Lounge, Champs, Ryos, the Official Club Shop, and other sponsors have all come to aid the cause for Fans and club alike. It's a very proud moment for Football in Wellington and in New Zealand in general.

It gives us something to look forward to, it gives us excitement, passion and people from all different walks of life are able to participate in its existence. The Social ramificcations of the Phoenix have been enormous and positive. not bad for a club 6 months old.

If it wasn't for "Ring of Fire" as a theme song, I would have gone for a song from The WHO - Join together. (Not to be confused with that old Commonwealth Games theme song).

We will be just fine. First season in a tough league. Never going to be easy. But next season we will be better and some of the team selection and combination problems will be ironed out for sure. The Phoenix will be a match for anybody else in the league next season.
