who would have thought that early that earlier this year there was a very VERY high chance that townsville would have taken our spot in the a-league and that we would be in the football abysiis agian. i remember being on the knights fourm back then im sure hardnews and the other knights guys will remember how bad it was. now we are sitting on the eve of the biggest weekend in sport in years for nz, i mean 15000 to the training today and expectin 18000-20000 2nite and 35000 2moro.

man it just shows ya how things have changed doesn't it,

 - just thinking the same myself; back at the start of the year what were the chances of Wellington having a full-time professional football team in the A league?

Dream on would probably have been the reply...

It's funny, back then I still identified myself as an Australian above my kiwi side, and my attitude was "Stuff Auckland, put a team in Canberra instead". Then Wellington was mentioned as a possibility and I instantly changed my mind to "Stuff Auckland and Canberra, bring the A-League here!" Back then I didn't overly care too much about football either, and I still called it soccer.

Now? I cheer for the All Whites over the Socceroos, I prefer football to any other sport, and I bleed black and yellow. I'm hoping to play and coach football next year, I have season tickets to both Wellington teams, and I'm hoping to fly to New Caledonia to catch the All Whites playing Fiji! Oh how I have changed - for the better I hope haha

You unquestionably qualify as a "successful project"!

Best thing basing this team in Wellington. I just don't think Aucklanders would have worn it a third time. The last lot were the final straw. The Phoenix would have had to have played regular winning football and been in the top four to get half the crowds they are getting in Wellington. Onwards and upwards.

I moved up here from Welly about 2.5 years ago and constantly pissed everyone off by telling them how the A League franchise should be in Wellington, how successful it would be, crowds would be great etc, etc.

Don't you just love it when you're proved right!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I remember getting into work every morning over here at 6AM, and logging onto the herald site, and seeing that it was getting unlikelier and unlikelier and then there would be no more extensions, and suddenly the god himself Terry comes along ... HAPPY DAYS!  I was so proud, I was so angry at what was going on, I felt a little betrayed by how cynical Wynton Rufer looked upon a New Zealand club prefering to delve his efforts into the Townsville Townspeople bid.
