I mean really? Can we appeal the first one? that was crazy.

Has the club got a history with Matt Gillett?

The first red - Ward was on a yellow already and would have been going I think for a yellow card tackle. So he pulls red.... he was going anyway. It means an extra week suspension.
The second - technically correct but you have to wonder if thats the standard for a 2nd yellow card.

This. Ward's tackle in my opinion perhaps warranted a yellow. Definitely not a red though.

They have to appeal the second one, that was a joke.

Why didnt the ref just add time on.

Cause then in theory you could be adding time on forever. If the answer was to always add time on, then there would never be a yellow card for time wasting, we wouldn't need keepers to release the ball with in a reasonable amount of time (6 seconds?) The game would become slow cause everyone would slow it up because time would just get added on, any emphasis on quick attacking play in the oppostion half would get nullified because defenders would just stand on the ball and refs would 'just add time on'
Yes it does sound silly doesn't it. Ultimately it was a stupid yellow from the ref but he is technically correct.

Seriously, what was the 2nd red for? I couldn't tell amongst the confusion.

was ward already on a yellow though? Dont think so, I can see a yellow, and posibly justify a red, if it was a bad tackle, but im not sure it was?

<rose-tinted>On the plus side, maybe Ricki will see the midfield can operate without Brown; also, we'll have to see manny at DM ?</rose-tinted>

1) Ward will definitely get next week off but we should appeal the extra week suspension as I believe you can only pull a straight red for unsportsmanship like conduct (punches etc) or a very hideous tackle Kevin Muscat-style.
2) Does the 6 second rule also apply to throw ins? If so we should appeal as Brown only had the ball for about 4 second and left it to Manny who was actually a couple of steps away. Very different from players leaving the ball on the mark when the closest team mate is 15-20 mt away

Pretty sure you can't appeal a 2nd yelllow can you?
The straight red is fair game though.

Same, I didn't even see him shown the red and thought he was injured!

Seriously though. The FFA need to put less money into Harry Kewell and more into training referees.

I think if the red misinterpreted the rules of the game you can. No one disputes that Nick had to go. It was def. a yellow card offence. But you can argue that the ref got it wrong by showing him a straight red. At the end of the day, when you get 2 x yellow cards you miss just the one game. So why should he miss 2?

Just watched the Tim Brown on the replay. The so-called time-wasting was for THREE seconds. That's the amount of time Tim took to pick up the ball and drop it back for Manny to take the throw. Three seconds is not time-wasting.

I don't think we (as in the Nix, not us YF) have ever whinged much with FFA. But I reckon this time we could really have a case in appealing the possible 2-match ban for Ward (1 game only) and Brownie's red card

That could actually work to our advantage too. If we manage to get it overturned, then he wouldn't serve any suspension at all, instead of an automatic 1 game suspension if he'd got a second yellow.
Thanks ref! (potentially).

Correct. Ward's foul did not deny an obvious goal-scoring opportunity. Not only were there two other defenders in close proximity, but one of them was directly between forward and keeper so not often that old idea of "last man" can be claimed as the reason for the red.
Ref got it wrong - not a straight red in any way.

I thought the FFA changed the reviewability of yellows after Griffiths escaped punishment for nut-punching because the ref issued a yellow, which closed the matter as having been dealt with on the pitch. Or did they only change it so that the FFA could add on punishment?

Nice bit of forensic work there. It makes me feel even more outraged at this massive refereeing incompetence. Sadly nothing new in the A League.

I literally glanced away for a second and he got red carded. It was so quick most people missed it. That is not a yellow card. 3 seconds...pah-lease.

Saw it all very closely.
Thing is, the ball being dropped on the ground and left for another player to take the throw happens 15-20 times a match in the exact same fashion and probably way slower. How this equates to time wasting just because it is the final 5 minutes is dumbfounding.

I've had a quick read on FIFA.com.
Referees must caution players who delay the restart of play by tactics such as:
appearing to take a throw-in but suddenly leaving it to one of his teammates to take
The shoe technically fits with a shoehorn and bunched up toes but would you say Browny put the ball down so as to time waste? Hardly.
Ward was yellowed in the 70th min so was on one already when he was tossed. The one that got him sent for me was worthy of another yellow so fundamentally I have no issue with him being sent. The question has to be asked was whether Ward sent for a bad tackle or denying a goal scoring chance because if thats a goal scoring chance running at Siggy and Dura, then their would be red cards every week across all games.
Surely there are refs on here that can confirm this?
