Temporarily involved:
Matthew Gould

Plus up to four of the senior squad.

The eight who count as Academy players are 'in camp' together at the Varsity, hence people seeing them at Boyd Wilson.  Marco and Musa involved as well.

any relation to Jonathan Gould?

I think if Musa has another good game tonight, he should get to start off the bench tomorrow night.

We all know Ricki only uses 2 of the 3 subs he's allowed, so when we get ahead by a couple, put the lad on to strut his stuff.

Point of order, you cannot "start" off the bench.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Yeh, Gouldy said first teamers, Rojas, Musa, Pavlovic, MacAllister, Diego and Crowther would be involved for parts of the match.

Does that mean they wont be playing the next day??

Probably means they are unlikely to start. I'd say one of Pavlovic and MacAllister will be on the bench.

Phoenix having good possession but don't look like finishing a chance.

well at least the youth players will be able to step it up into the first team, playing the same tactics and all

Commentary not remotely biased, but in fact fantastic.

Just saying.

At least one TW player made an impression. On the roof of Mt Crawford prison. In the shape of a football.

I rekon Diego and Rojas made a much bigger inpression than both Pav and Mac. anyone agree with me?

We went.A few thoughts for what they're worth.
If Pavlovic is the answer then I sure as hell don't want to know the question.Runs around a lot , looks like an athlete but does bugger all with the ball. Looks very right footed to me as well.
McAllister- yes he scored but still looks big , slow and very very awkward.
Crowther- noisy , very organising , out for the ocasional cross tht TW got in. Tidy but enough to displace pasty?- no.
Marco-very very good. I was surpised how quick he is- sh*t he's got wheels.Really good to see a winger running with pace at the full back and often past him.Occasionally drifted out of the game and Gould gave him a bollocking  but he came good in the second half.I was hoping he'd play well in front of my little boy and he did.
Diego- probably the most skilled player on the park- at times made some of the TW players seem really pedestrian and left a couple of them on their arses wondering what the hell had just happened. But at times was guilty of overdoing the trickery and neglecting the simple ball.Be good to see him on the bench tomorrow.
Musa- good in the air , beaten a few times on the ground. First team ready?- not sure yet.
I was quite impressed with  young Phoenix player , no 7 ( ?Biss). Good first touch , quick and lovely movement. One to watch I think.

TW did OK. A couple of good saves from Imray. Ii'd like to know who's a better keeper than him in the ASB championship.
Jamie Duncan is a good fullback. Not often beaten and works his nuts off supportiing the attack.
Tyler Lisstte will be a good player but still makes some silly mistakes so jury out.
Karl Whalen was very good tonight.
Eager at times looks like the only midfielder in the team. Controls well , good vision. A bit one paced but he pulls the strings at the moment.
TW strikers- both Fifi and Abba were poor.I'm getting really fed up with these f...ing stupid little flicks they both do ; 90% of them never come off. Fifi had a good first touch mostly but does nothing with it.At least Hicham offers some direct running.Would have loved to see Sutherland for a bit longer tonight.
Cade is interesting- lots of skills , can score ( nice goal tonight) and seems technically good. But when things don't go well , he drops his head and sulks.Stu was revving him up a lot . Whether it's fitness or attitude I don't know but the boy can play a bit.

A bit long , sorry guys. Just a few random thoughts.
Oh , we met Rikki on the way out.Ddn't give anything away.

Pav made a big impression in goal during the warm ups.
Rufer Jr made an impression with his nose.
Rufer Sr tried with that dirty stain on upper lip.

Cheers for that mate

Good signs coming from Rojas

I have been saying that pav or mac should be starting next to greeny, but if they aren't performing week in, week out, then maybe we should start looking for new ideas. Rojas is living up his potential. Time to start rewarding him with regular bench time

good to hear Biss played well. Was highly impressed with him in the CL play-offs, tore Upper Hutt to shreds. Rojas is fast but will he cope alright physically?
Permalink Permalink

So no good then? Or maybe just good off the bench?

Marco ?

I was responding to the trained seals question about coping physically.  If he can get through training with that lot, an A-League will be a cinch.

Interesting match which was very even so the final score was probably the right one.

In my opinion Diego was the standout on this footballing night. He could and should be a starter in the Phoenix midfield. He has wonderful skill and far more skill than all our current midfielders put together. Plain and simple really.
Marco Rojas was very good also. It would be great to see him getting more game time off the bench at least.

TW slowly improving. It is not a coincidence that 2 matches running now the introduction of Kamri and Emiliano have turned the games for them. Emiliano is a match winner and showed that with his class finish.
