Interesting match which was very even so the final score was probably the right one.

In my opinion Diego was the standout on this footballing night. He could and should be a starter in the Phoenix midfield. He has wonderful skill and far more skill than all our current midfielders put together. Plain and simple really.

Marco Rojas was very good also. It would be great to see him getting more game time off the bench at least.

TW slowly improving. It is not a coincidence that 2 matches running now the introduction of Kamri and Emiliano have turned the games for them. Emiliano is a match winner and showed that with his class finish.

This inerests me greatly. our midfield has alway lacked spark, and if Diego can consistently rip it up in these games then maybe he will deserve another shot? Does sound like he impressed more than Pav/Mac.

More Rojas please!!!

I'm surprised that firstly Ricki has a dog called Fifi and secondly that he would sa no to it when it gives him the "Puppy Eyes"!

Diego didnt rip it up. He just tried nutmegging and succeeded about 50% of the time. Not what you want in the A-League.
Rojas as always great on attack. Kind of like Kosta runing at players. He doesnt care much for tracking/defending I dont think.
Wasn't impressed by most of the kids in their team. I these are the stars from the  LH u19 and whatever then there aint much there. Young Higgins had a worse slice than his brother.

...and they wonder why people won't talk to them.

A stick used by some (cough - knitting circle - cough) to beat the Phoenix is not developing kiwi players, yet here we have a 3 month academy and the ASB Challenge competition and you wouldn't even know the game was on.

Meanwhile the Waikato Tiimes talk it up and get close to 1000 along when they play up there.

That should have been a good news story, instead they whine that all they got was a chat with Ricki when the team are focussed on a game.

Diddums.

Good links to better articles on the homepages.

Sam W - very disappointing (but that is the rag as whole in a nutshell).

This does make me rather sad - that an Akld paper (& Oz ones too) give better coverge to a Wgtn team (playing in a Oz competition).  Doom Post hardly a community paper these days.

Just on this theme, Darcy Waldergrave on Radio Sport was saying this morning that the Phoenix are being a little difficult at the moment. Trying to get a player on this week has been impossible and they have been difficult to deal with.

Obviously hunkering down which is a good thing but it is a fine balance between that and damaging your own profile.

i dont like the phoenix not talking to the media. I dont expect the players to front on the serepisos stuff but if they've adopted some seige mentality in respect to queries and scrutiny of team form that is not good enough.

You take the good with the bad. If you want the media to talk and hype you up when things are rolling and when you're quite happy to flood the media with willing talkers then you need to front up when things are tough and people want to ask what's wrong.

And nobody try and convince me that doing an interview has some impact on how you play.

trouble is marcus, when the players front up all the media want to ask about is the financial stuff, until the media are prepared to ask the right people about the right things they'll get the cold shoulder.

Seeing as I heard both Ricki and Gouldy on Radio Sport yesterday I'm a little lost as to how the Phoenix are now seen as 'not talking to the media'.

They played a clip of Durante talking about this week's games on the sports news on The Rock this morning, so they're obviously talking to somebody

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

This.

I think you'll find it's "Phoenix not talking to the Doom Post" after Worthington stitched a few of the players up in last week's article.

And fair enough from the players imho.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Meanwhile....back on topic.

Agree with Rojas comments, that boy has wheels!!! Also good close ball control. He does lose a bit of concentration after he has lost the ball. He needs to up his work rate on defense...but these things would be easily coached into him......a very good prospect. He could do with a few sessions in the weight lifting gym to improve his body strength.

Pav just never got out of first gear....he looks like a good athlete but he looked way too casual. Not the answer for the First team on this display. BigMac was busier...tracked back to pick up the ball and did some good layoffs....still does not look dynamic.

Musa will one day have a long career in the Nix. For a CB of his age he has an amazing maturity. He defused a number of good Wellington attacks by positioning and anticipation. He has excellent speed too...he once turned and ran down a Wellington attacker after giving him a half metre start.

Of the other youngsters..the number 7 Biss looked very good on the right wing. He has good speed and clever footwork. He created a number of chances.

I thought as well as Diego in the midfield Zane Sole looked OK. He is very solid in possession, hard to get off the ball. He had a good work rate and passes OK.

Would any of them make it to the seniors this week?. Probably no apart from Bigmac or Pav on the bench or a Rojas cameo. Diego was quite good but the Nixettes played a game that suited his style of play......i.e they kept the ball on the ground, there was good player movement and they mixed it up going down the middle and spreading it wide. No lump ball..(so not the way the seniors are currently playing)

I agree, I've been impressed from the few times I've seen him play. But the coaches will have taken note of the mistake he made for the goal. Some people are asking for him to be promoted, but this might indicate that it won't happen any time soon.

I'd like to see Marco in the first team a bit more though. The time off he had due to injury wouldn't have helped his progress so hopefully he pushes for a spot soon (on his own merit, not because of a 'shake up')
