If its a cracker day, you can't beat an afternoon on the bank at the Basin watching the cricket. But other things, well... um ... Te Papa, but yeah there's not a lot to do here.

I think you go on that Wellesley boat down near Frank Kitts park. I went on it once, but it was ages ago so I don't remember much.

Also the DomPost ferry that goes between Eastbourne, Somes Island, Petone and the city.

Not a tour but might fit into your timetable and possibly cheaper?

Cable car to go up to the Botanical Gardens (not sure if the Carter Observatory is still undergoing renovations).

Maritime Museum or whatever it's called now (City and Sea?) - free, Te Papa for a bit of kultcha.  If you are of a literary bent Katherine Mansfield's house in Thorndon (costs but).

Yeah, not much to do here.

For an afternoon, to kill, it's probably cultural exhibitions.  Aside from what's mentioned, there are:

Film archive.
City gallery (at Civic Square), Adam Art gallery (at Victoria University), plus the smaller commercial galleries.

Failing that, the city is very walkable, so you might be as well off just to wander.

That's pretty much been my itinerary every time I've been down. From what I remember, I've usually had a good time.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

You might struggle with The Wellesley boat, last I hear it left Wellington and is now doing trips around Fiji.

Strike up a conversation with a well-known singer and then follow him into an alley-way.

I'm amazed at how fortuitously those two images lined up in that post

Other things to do in Wgtn #53:

Catch the bus out to Tawa by mistake. When you get off see how long it takes for someone to say "You're rrreal purdy. You tain't be from round here be you?"   See how quickly you can run back to the city when the banjo music gets louder...

#62:

Go to the Nix shop. Ask in a loud unashamed voice where you can get the latest Highlander gear for the friday night match.

(you need to be close to the door to side step the violently hurled phoenix gnome)

In all fairness to Tawa, the Pink Pineapple is a must visit in Wellington (which might explain my waistline...)

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.

Cheers for that guys.
good walk through town, got fallon top and a couple of other things,
Had a fantastic time in the zone, got a couple of ales and santa hats at the bencher pre match.
for a first timer to the tin i was mightly impressed by the stadium, i just hope ours can get the same expeierence/vibe as that.
Was impressed by the fever zone and the chanting (espec. all we want is a decent ref), never heard anything like that at the brook.
Will be back sooner rather than later.
