It seems that Ricki is trying to loan Tianjin Teda for the season.  Do you all think this is a good idea or not?

I have reservations based on language, ability and hunger to perform.  I see him becoming another G**, plus he is using one of the vital import slots  that could be better spent.

Opinions?

Not every Chinese player is down to Leilei's standard, some of them are much much better.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Do you mean Chen? Because if so then I would have chosen Yes.

I don't think we should sign another G**.
But this young under 23 could be a hit

If Jiang Chen joins Phoenix then lets hope that despite potential languge problems he can do his "talking" on the field.Good luck to him.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

God this guilt by association/skin colour thing won't go away!

OK, so there are likely to be some barriers (glass half full/half empty stuff).  I made earlier comment about a certain Yao Ming (tall fella, can't miss him) - who encountered a real culture shock on all fronts... He made it through - not sure how much resources Houston threw at him but he did have a minder who could speak Mandarin.

However the deciding factor I think was his attitude.

So let's hope Jiang has a better attitude than that shown by some of the people on this site.

At least we wont have problems with the Adelaide game with an entire 2nd club in reserve!

But honestly, I think Jiangchen is a rush signing (if we get him), even if no one will admit it. We've trialed quite a few players and none of them worked out. Obviously Tony P, Ricki and co wanted to wait until they found a striker that fit into our setup etc but we've had to choose quickly now that time has run out. We need another player to reach a squad of 20,  which is the minimum required, and Jiangchen will fill that last spot.

To me, he looked skillful when he had the ball. A bit lightweight (though by no means the smallest guy i've ever seen) though and he worked hard for about 20 minutes but after that he was absolutely buggered. A bit like Felipe. I do remember seeing him act quite petulant on several occasions when he didn't get the ball - G**-esque, I suppose.

No asian players have really set the competition alight yet so who knows, maybe Jiangchen can be the first. (Song has been good for Newcastle at times but not really on a consistant basis.)

In a perfect world Potty would have turned out to be a great target man with great athletic ability and skills but unfortunately he was more like a bigger Ali Dia.

agreed - comparing Chen to G** basically because he comes from the same country with over a billion people is pretty stoopid
I like tautologies because I like them.

Not withstanding your subsequent comments - if you accept the original premise for the poll then even with the entire Tianjin team we would have problems.

Agree that the signing does seem rushed, but maybe we don't know the whole story.
