Yes this might be a bit premature but what a player Tim Brown is! I admit this was one of my first times seeing Tim playing, but I thought he was outstanding last night, not just because of the football he was playing (solid in midfield, great pass for the goal), but his leadership. He was constantly revving up the boys, lunging into tackles, giving 110%. Kudos to Tim for not turning around and whacking the guy as well for elbowing him as well, thought that was just plain dirty and unsporting. It makes me very proud to call myself a NZer after his performance last night. I find it very hard to see how he can be dropped after last night.

Great game for Vince Lia as well, looks a very classy player.

folks on this board with more knowledge of NZ football than me have been talking Timmo up for a while,

I was impressed by his vision and first time delivery in the CCM home game,

great to see the leadership aspect come to the fore,

regarding Felipe, I'm thinking he'll be on the bench for QLD

TWO nasty tackles in two weeks though...

BUT to your OP Tim Brown really did well. Any idea what he said in that on pitch interview? The Fever Lounge was a "tad" noisy...

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

And how will Ross fit back in?

It's good to see him passionate about our team, but you are right; both of those challenges were pretty reckless and he could have been sent off on either occasion. I still think his performance was enough to warrant  a start next week, he was playing some great passes and is very composed on the ball.

He'll have to do a lot to break into the starting line-up after that solid midfield performance.

Johnno was at least as good as Ross and Johnno will get better with game time too whereas I think we've seen Ross at his best.
The topic Tim Brown, yep good leadership, we needed it too.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Then what with Plodder? Ricki's not going to drop him.

Will be hard with Felipe. We mighty have to sacrifice Johnson.

i think Brownie was something we had been lacking  - a fit as f**k midfielder who can do the hard yards and put in the hits. Was prob itching to get out there too. Keep him there

interesting at the start of the game the commentators said aloisi had been dropped but i read on here it was a back strain. anyone know which version of events is true?

i think felipe on the bench is a good move. he has done his most exiting stuff off the bench (barr the sydney goal) and hes not a 90 min player. hes our most talented by far. doesnt mean he can play game back to back and be magical everytime. impact player for me

Both Ricki and Wayne O'Sullivan have said today on radio that it was a back niggle that kept him out

Maybe the hammy is still giving him trouble.  He certainly wasn't himself last weekend...

My view is that he investing time in Plodder to make him a Right back and he's getting better.  Some of his attacking work and passes last night were quality.

If you start the path of converting another midfielder you might end up with someone who is no better and waste another 6 matches just to get them to the point Plodder is at.

It's like O'Dor, for large parts of the game he's excellent and he improves most matches, if he keeps going on this path in twelve months time he will be one of the best CB's in the league.

With O'Sullivan, Jacobs and Ricki we have people that have huge experience in defensive roles, if they invest the time, and the players pick up a fraction of what those three know they will become quality players in those roles.

It won't happen overnight and we need to be patient but there are signs in most matches that it will happen.

How's my driving? - Whine here

christie had a decent game last night - but i remain v unconvinced long-term

But HN has a point - there is no obvious candidate. it prob was lia is anyone, but he seems settled in the midfield for now

Yeah, Brown played an absolute blinder and made an awesome capitan.

part of the problem with Christie, for me, is that  -as far as i know you can't coach "pace",

agreed the coaches will help him with his reading of the game as a defender, and he did put in some good tackles getting the ball out for a throw on a few occasions, he is progressing

the 2 main things in HN's post for me is the notion of consistency = players getting to anticipate each others runs etc

and the fact that our coaching staff are doing an excellent job - whether you look at Mossy, Lochead, Dodd, O'Dor, Lia, or Smeltz it seems to me that Ricky and crew are getting performances out of these lads that are either impressive right now or steadily heading in that direction

Timmo can be someone that can lead this club into a bright future

Smeltz in particular is really starting to get his head around his role - great work rate, tracks back, intelligent runs, varying his options whether to lay it off -or take players on, and good feet for a big man, really looking forward to seeing him work with elrich/felipe or whoever's in the hole as the season rolls on

rave, rave (and only one beer)

that goal epitomised tim brown

he closes down pace, puts players under pressure, snaps away at your heels, works his bottom off - for that he was rewarded with the turnover, and thanks to also being a good technician he was able to take advantage by laying on a really well timed and weighted pass

And he was articulate and interesting in his post match pitch interview......an outstanding all round game and effort by Tim.

Welcome home fella....one to lead us into the future and I'm sure he's getting better for having Ross there to learn from.
