Blackpool only have 8 players on the books - surely he can get a gig there!
Tim Payne
problem is that he would be getting paid in donkey rides on the Pleasure Beach.
Ha ha boom!
any word on Tim and a new club?

Edit: snap.
must have a Spanish passport he hasn't told us about
The new lindsay
Signing with Auckland City is the best way to get signed by the Wellington Phoenix. Really hope it works out for him. Our midfield is stacked now, however.
Is it the best move to get picked up by the Nix?
Bar for Hicks, the rest of the midfield all have two years left on their contract don't they? Thats a long time to wait.
Personally think he should be back in Europe looking for a gig and staying in a pro environment.
The new Luke Adams?

I guess he tried that but didn't work out?
Did he?
Came back as soon as he was released and has not left since.
I'm sure he could get a trial somewhere if he wanted to. There are not too many 20 year old full internationals with U21 Captain experience for a prem club (albeit relegated 2 seasons ago)
A lack of drive / commitment??
You seem to be understating how tough it is there and perhaps overestimating Tim's ability.
He went to Toronto after being released and then I remember from this thread I think that he went back to England. Would be super surprised if he didn't try

Looks like he's bulked up and got slower from what I saw of game today.

Rediscovered great kiwi pies then!
No clue if he's still there, but he could potentially edge his way into the Timber 2 team in the USL and find regular game time. Not sure what MLS club would take him and field him at all.
Looks as though he's going through pre season training with Timbers 2nd XI and trying to impress from there in an attempt to snag a contract.
According to this, and the following comments below, it sounds as though he may have a bit of an uphill battle for any remaining spots. Guess all will be revealed in the coming weeks as pre season winds up and the MLS kicks off.

Result!
Hope he eventually makes the first team in MLS, although it will be difficult.
If you get the chance, watch a Portland Timbers home game in MLS on ESPN or online.
The atmosphere is awesome - one of the noisiest crouds you'll see, singing, shouting and waving flags and banners throughout he game.
A unique feature is the official lumberjack by the pitchside who saws a slice off a large tree trunk with a chainsaw when the Timber score and gives it to the fans - crazy fun stuff !!!
Here's a taster:
Came on in the 77th minute. The team were already 3-1 ahead and were dominating the game, so he had a quiet few minutes on the field. Didn't receive the ball much, but I don't think he will be happy with his overall distribution during the few times he did get the ball.
I think Gleeson was on the bench. He should be starting soon though, he's been out for a while with a minor injury but he's been back at training this past week.
Payne paired up with Nick Besler (Timbers 1st pick choice in the superdraft) in the midfield, as mentioned, not much for him to do.
Full 90 for Payne in Portland's 2-1 win vs. Sacremento in the USL last Thursday night:

Gleeson played the full 90 in goal.
I wonder if Gleeson played a part in him getting over there?
Inquired about the prospect of Howieson going over there now he's leaving Burnley. He seemed interested and wanted more information on him which I gave. How could they link up ?
Try contacting Graham McMann of Christchurch who got Howieson the gig at Burnley.
He is a former Burnley youth coach who spotted Howieson in Christchurch and recommended him to Burnley.
He is a scout and high performance coach at the International Football Academy in Chch (formerly at the Asia Pacific Football Academy, Lincoln, Chch)
IFANZ is fairly new private football academy based in Rolleston, Chch and Kaiapoi, Canterbury

popped along today to watch them play Sounder Reserves. They lost 2-0 but he was one of the best on the park. Was playing a box-to-box midfield role in a 4-4-2. Was good on the ball, has developed a long passing game, was busy in defensive, made a couple of key blocks, and one outstanding run through midfield.
Sounds like the Timbers head coach rates him.
Captain today against Sounders2 live now on YouTube
Looks like he isn't at the Timbers 2 anymore, transferred to Unattached FC
Timothy John Payne (born 10 January 1994) is a New Zealand footballer who plays for who is currently without a club and plays for the New Zealand national football team
Back to ACFC I imagine.
If the Phoenix ditch Lia he could be a option

Not good enough
I think with Roly, WeeMac, Finkler, A-Rod, Riera, Ridenton, McGarry, Singh, and maybe Rufer re-signing too we've probably got enough midfielders anyway
Perhaps he should go back to trying to be a striker... we need one of those!
He's trialling at Rochester Rhinos (USL), so won't be back to NZ
