Don't know who else heard athe interview with Brendan Telfer replayed from his show this morning, but just caught a replay of it.  Apart from the obvious annoyance that he only got Tony on the show to answer questions about the fact that the Phoenix haven't got a major sponsor yet when he has yet to feature the Phoenix on the show, he described Tony's aim of 12-15,000 at the first game as "hugely optimistic".

I really hope we are able to prove him wrong and rub his nose in it at the same time.  It's now two weeks until the first match, still time to grab your season tickets and encourage your mates to do the same, and prove the doubters like Telfer wrong!!

Agreed, so many people seem to underestimate footballs popularity, especially amongst younger kids, adults etc.

My school has 25 football teams, more players than rugby in total and we are the number 1 rugby team in the country at the moment!!!!

Soccer numbers are getting higher and higher and we are beginning to produce better young players. Whereas rugby is suffering from over exposure, look at tv3, only 62 days to the rwc... its 60 odd days a way for fcuk sake!!!!

Long live football and may rugby die an agnozingly slow death.

No, may it suffer a quick death, because the longer its death takes, the longer we are going to be subjected to it.

I don't think it's being "hugely optimistic" to hope for 12-15 000 at the first a-league match either.

I'm trying to put the word out - how hard is it to be there on a Sunday afternoon? Not a lot else on that time of day on a winter weekend ....

Any chance i get i'm asking people if they've been or are going to the Phoenix,

some blokes in one of the Island Bay teams didn't even know the Nix had played last friday, so the big advertising push by the club and by us is a must,

i overheard some high school kids talking about fridays game on the way in, they were deciding whether to go or not, I said it was free and the best show in town

we've got to not be shy, talk it up!!

every time i see a Nix billboard i sing a Nix song, I don't care if people think i'm mad , it's football!! and they need to know how good it is - for their own good

I reckon "yellow fever" would have to be perfect for the idea of viral marketting (whatever that is )

I think a problem could be $23 for over 16 year olds. Which is confusing cause you can get a concession on a season ticket if your an id holder but you can't get a child ticket. If they change that I'm sure they will get a lot more students who aren't big football fans willing to pay the $10.

Telfer is THE most anti-football hack on radio. He is THE most condescending arrogant sneering up himself t**ser I have ever had the misfortune to listen to. Unless it is golf, netball or athletics, he is only interested in putting down the sport.
I think it is in the best interest of the game to boycott the pr*ck.
Going in the same direction is that egghead Willie Lose. If you heard him talking to Seater about the under-20s where he kept repeating the line but we are not winning, when Seater put to him some close results against some top nations. He is a tw*t, who also asked is Celtic really that big a club when Chris Killen went there. Celtic is one of the top ten supported and recognisable clubs in the world.
Radio has some real jerks that are just itching to get down on the Phoenix.

I don't know a lot about netball but a girl at work who knows all about it says that Telfer knows f**k all about the rules. He always gets it wrong apparently.

Telfer.  Complete twat.  I'm a golfer and I can tell you - he knows f**k all about this sport as well.  Yet he prats on like he's Ben Hogan.  Shameful.  I've almost given up on Radiosport.  It used to be great.  Cutting edge even. But now, please....Veitch, Telfer, Waldegrave, Lose, and then Deaks!!!!!!!!!!  A combined 14 hours of complete crap..  Martin Devlin.  Where are you?  Please save this sinking yet potentially wonderful ship!!!!!!

PS: Mind you it could be worse.  Imagine if Romanos had a 3 hour show...I could produce it in my bedroom still wearing my PJs, it would be that easy.  Every second episode would go something like this: "Let's countdown the 2,000 greatest All Blacks with Keith Quinn....at number 1,503 we have Joe Thugby from Te Puke, one of the world's great outside centres...." Andy Thomsom from Pandasport gave Yellow Fever a mention on the show yesterday. Lots of praise. I agree about Telfer and radio sport in general. It was a much better station 3 years back. But better to have it than not. Coverage of football is better know than before radio sport.

Why don't we get organised and bombard his talkback time with YF callers - that would give him cause to think twice about saying football has "no fans"
