sh*t we have a bit of depth of the back now. McKain, Durante, Muscat, Lochhead, Mulligan, Sigmund and Christie (if you'd count him as competition). What  team we have

Yeah, the way he's been talking he might just stick around until well after retirement, he's calling himself a kiwi after all.

And Fred said he was going to play for Australia 5 mins before running off to get more money in America. Reinaldo did too. (though he was too sh*t anyway)

No player is 100% loyal to a club and I wouldn't be suprised to see Daniel leave for somewhere like the MLS after a really good season.

Though i'm cynical, so hey :p

Also, it's kinda funny how our squad looks a little defensive-heavy now with Smeltz the only out and out striker. (Coveny too, but he doesn't really score many and will play a limited role this year)

Why does Christie get bagged so much. Admittedly over the last couple of seasons he was fairly average, but to be fair who in the knights wasn't?? I didn't see enough of him at Perth to comment.

But in regards to last year i actually thought he did quite well at rb for us, certainly better than Odor and Old, and that was with a poor cb pairing on his inside. He tackled well, chased hard and made some good overlapping runs.

He made one glaring error which cost us a goal, but who didn't???

The fact we haven't heard yet, despite an announcement supposed to been made already makes me think its more likely. Is the delay because the nix are working out what to sell him for???

I hope so.

Meanwhile, a poll of the eight A-League team captains has unveiled Sydney FC as the overwhelming favourite to take out the fourth edition of the league, which kicks off on Friday, with Melbourne Victory the only other club to receive a nomination.

Amusing that all the captains picked Sydney - perhaps the question was posed to them to exclude their own club, hence the Sydney skipper would have been the one for Melbourne.

Better than O'Dor and Old, yes that is true. But Christie tackling? Chasing? And making overlapping runs? That surely is a figment of your imagination.

He's plodder. He just plods around, does very little, and when he does play, you'll be lucky to notice he's even playing

he's good enough to be a squad player for the nix, and provide last resort-cover both in midfield and at RB, unless he has a blinder of a season this year (which i doubt), he could easily be one of the first to be released at the end of the season, but other than playing out of position at RB the nix simply have not seen enough him to tell wether he's decent or not
You know we belong together...

It's funny because last year when he was playing virtually everyone on this site was bagging him. And now i've seen a few people say he's ok, i guess times a healer

Better than O'Dor, surely you jest   I've never seen such a capable defender, at least in terms of causing turnovers and dropping their bundle with the game on the line.  I'm not overly desponded those two are gone, just quietly.

Dont rely on memory..look at a map.  Middlesbrough is nowhere near Manchester.  North East derbies are between Newcastle, Sunderland and Boro...

Mmmm. . . . What would you do if you are Boro?

Would you hire Lochhead, 26 year old, LB with some A-league games and MLS games or hire Justin Hoyte, 23 year old Arsenal defender (former U21 England player ) with 68 appearances for the Gunners but struggled to establish for the gunners as well as 30 loan games for Sunderland who could play anywhere along the back four?

Boro must think that they must stand an very good chance by their offer to Arsenal.

This could explain Lochhead being back. However Southgate now knows where he could get a cheap defender to provide some cover during the EPL season if he feels he needs to. This does happen with lots of players, they get tested in the off season and some get a call back later during the season.

He maybe an outside club back up and hence why the ten days look in. Southgate needed to see the ambition, passion and how he fits in.

Hoyte is awful, costs 3m and is barely a right back, let alone CB or LB

Southgate says that he has the ability but needs to have experience to play against the speed and style of the english premiership game more. Talk about cuthroat!! How is he going to achieve that? It's not really achievable in the championship league below because it is not changeable as the Premiership and surely 10 days was to show his ability not his experience. Boro is looking for a more proven player. Good luck to them. But I think that Tony has a better chance to try West Ham instead for trials.AllWhitebelievr2008-08-16 17:12:46
