1, Pre-Season - No one knows.  Remember that this season has not actually finished yet.
2, Sky have not covered the pre-season, as FoxSports in Aus do not cover it.  They did cover the final this year after the Phoenix made it.
3, I wouldn't expect this to change.
4, Two months off I think, late April maybe ?
5, Pretty sure Ed Baranowski went mid-season.

Probably with Cricket, Sevens and Super 14 all coming before the Phoenix I would imagine.

10 teams is too small for a top 6 competiton.

Never should get more than 1/2 the teams in the playoffs.

Correct.

Although, in my opinion there should be no 'finals' at all - what's wrong with a normal league and a separate cup competition just like almost everywhere else in the world????

Thats great for us fans...more footy to watch. it will put pressure on squads...longer season, possibly more fatigue and injuries. It goes without saying that the squads with the most depth will be at the top at the end of the season.
 Yay lower quality football!

What works 'almost' everywhere else in the world is all well and good where that method of deciding a Champion has been established for 100+ years.  This is a fledgling league that, to survive, needs to engage the supporters of the dominant codes in this part of the world and those supporters have 100 years of Grand Final history.

I am sure that if in 1900 someone decided the SPL (yes pedants, I know it wasn't the SPL then, we're talking hypotheticals) should be finished with a final you would not see any difference in what happens here.  You have to adapt to suit your market and this is what the A-League has done.

The thing is though, as soon as we didn't make the top 4, the season was over for me, and after the 2 week gap until the semi finals, I had actually completely forgotten about it and it was only when I caught a snippet of the news that I realised the games were even on.

Admittedly it would obviously have been more exciting had we made the top 4.

However, I think a cup competition would be a great idea. Given that Phoenix can beat anyone at home on their day, a favourable draw could see them win such a competition and also provide excitement.

For me, the worst part about the finals is that game before the final - there should've been no second chance for Adelaide after losing to Melbourne. Having Melbourne v Adelaide 3 times in 4 weeks is not, for me, an ideal situation.
