Anyone else just see that on 3 news? Didn't look too major but a little worrying. Herbert interestingly enough cast it in a positive light...I don't know what it could've been about considering Leilei can barely speak a word of English!

Saw it on the TV1 sports news.  Johnson walked up to LeiLei and grabbed him around the throat as if to throttle him.  Doesn't look good for the club or the game when that sort of thing is aired on national TV.  In my view, both a couple of w**kers.  They should try really working for a living like most of us so that they can know how lucky they are to be palying for the Phoenix.  Ricki shrugged it off along the lines of it's good to see a bit of intensity.  Yeah, right! - it was just common assault.  Better if Ricki had treated it that way and reminded them both where the exit door is.

Why are they w**kers? Why would you show them the exit door? I dont see the problem. I bet that happens regularly on every training ground on the planet. Toughen up i say!

I hope there isn't any rift coming into the squad.

To your first question, because: (a) they should realise how lucky they are playing football for a living, so it's not worthwhile fighting about it; (b) it causes bad morale in the team; (c) most importantly, it's reflects badly on and is unwanted publicity for the Phoenix and the game.

To you second question, because it reminds them what door they can to walk through if they repeat it.

Why would you bet that it happens regularly on every training ground on the planet?  And, even if it does, does it justify happening on the Phoenix training ground or is it a reason to tolerate it?

Clearly you've never played football, this stuff happens all the time, just this once it was captured by the cameras.  Get over it

Yeah, throttling each other is always encouraged in professional football. We should have choking competitions. Kosmina can judge.

Thought TV1 might feature this, seeing as its negative Nix.

I dont see a problem with it, we've all had problems with people in our own team, and probably regulary give teammates a mouthful.

Big fuss about nothing. As others on here have said, if you've been around football long enough you'll have seen that, and far worse, on training grounds many a time. Don't see this as any reason to start an "Oh sh*t, morale's down the toilet. Ricki should sack them all" bandwagon.

I reckon it was all a misunderstanding after Leilei had asked Rich if he was going for a drink after training.......

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Good if the players are getting toey with one another just maybe they might show  a bit of fight when it comes game day.Dont think this will be the last shot thats thrown our way if they dont start getting results.

Mate, I somehow dont think luck comes into it for a start. Firstly they are pro footballers because they have a talent  that we can only dream of! Seconldy, they all work extreamly hard to be where they are.
b) I agree wholeheartedly with Ricki, They showed shome passion and a bit of fight in that clip and I loved it!
c) Publicity is a good thing! TV3 didnt even show match highlights on Monday after the game so a bit of reporting on the team is all good in my books. Bad publicity is when one of the lads gets pissed and makes a w**ker of himself or similar ,which hasnt and hopefully wont happen.
The phoenix are fantastic role models and the more grit that we all see the better.

And I would bet that it happens at every training ground on the planet because when i wasnt so fat and used to turn up to train we used to give it our all and sometimes it would boil over.
My first senior training with Stop Out many years ago i turned up and was chopped by a fella called John Hill . As i rolled around in pain he leaned down as if to help me up but instead barked ' wear your f**king shinpads to training you little c**t'!
Top man Hilly, Top player. It happens. Live with it or go and play scrabble.

Those were the days Big Dunc!  Magnificent.  Football needs more of that kind of competition at training...when the seven-a-side at the end wasn't an excuse to piss around; it mattered, and everyone gave it their all as if it was a Saturday.  If half the players playing today got spoken to like Hilly did to you, they'd be off crying that the nasty man was mean to them.

there's nothing better than coming home from a high intensity training with the shirt ripped from ya back.

I thought Jono was gonna throttle someone on Sunday. He must have tucked away the mist for a few days.

Great story!  Was that the fullback Irishman John Hill of Gisborne City (originally) and the All Whites fame BigDunc?  If so, a fantastic player.  Would still p*ss over any of the current All Whites players (in fact, so would Stop Out of old over any of the NZFC teams).  Good old days at Te Whiti Park - watched all the Stop Out games, but can't remember if JH played for them.  Were you in the National League BigDunc?
