Tranmere Fan - Greenacre/Warner

Hi,

Tranmere fan here.

As it's pretty hard finding any coverage over here with the A League, I've been having to use the web to keep tabs on the above. Easier said than done though as I only find little snippets so thought I'd come on here and check with you lot.

How've both players been since signing with you? Despite Warner having a good half season with us last year, I'm more interested in Greenacre. He'll forever be a Tranmere legend, and we'd have him back in a flash if we could (especially with our lack of strike power at the moment).

What you make of him?

P.S. Would love to come watch a game within the next few years. Hopefully if I do end up moving that way they'll become my second team

Greenie: Just about the hardest working player in the team. Hasn't scored many goals, but is often played in target man/one up front role that clearly doesn't suit him due to our lack of other options. Almost universally loved by the fans, and is an assistant coach and seemingly well respected by all in the club.

Warner: Was in a 2 way battle with our NZ keeper Mark Paston, came in when Paston was injured and played 4 or 5 games, had a few mistakes and has since ceded the position back to Paston.

4 or 5? More like 14 or 15!

hey mate, I use betfair to watch all the a league games from here in the uk. if you open an account and put a fiver   in the account you'll be able to watch all of the a league games on there live. Failing that skysports uk does a 30min round up every week on one of the sky sport channels(can't remember which one). hope that helps haha

Greenie has been a great signing.

If you are a stats oriented fan, check out his stats here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wellington_Phoenix_FC_records_and_statistics

He works like a man possessed. Was a bit quiet early this year in some people's opinion, but as mentioned that might not have all been due to stuff he could control. He's been in fine form lately again.

Did you lot have any particular Greenacre chants?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Alternatively not sure if this works in the UK-

I used to use this for two years when I was in Korea. Wasn't too expensive for a years Asian football. Might have gone up in price now though, or been geo-blocked. Bet Fair was good quality too- but I was too chicken to put a fiver in the account just in case I started spending it!

Greenacre has been an awesome signing. He is as highly rated here as he seems to be at Tranmere.

He has chipped in with a few handy goals but his true value to the club is as much about what he brings off the field. A model professional.

Hope he stays here in some capacity in the future.

Plus he runs his arse off and applies pressure the whole time.

Greenacre has a great work ethic.
If everyone else worked as hard as him we would be world beaters
Well A-league winners anyway

Not geo-blocked in the UK. Alternatively there are streams of every A-League game on live football streaming sites, quality varies and the sites come and go, but never too difficult to find something.

I Greenacre, thats why he's part of my Greenacre/C-Diddy/Ifill Sandwich. I sometimes add other ingredients too!

Says it all for me. I hope the club recognises his worth and keeps him on.

Contrary to Youknow's insightful analysis, Warner is not 'sh*t'. I thought he was generally OK in those 15 games. A slight lack of mobility maybe, but IMO there isn't much between him and Mark Paston.

Catches the ball much more than Pasty, and always looks to distribute quicker. Also Pasty has played with the defenders of 3 or 4 seasons (?), and with the AWs so Warner didn't have that advantage.

Was solid, didn't make many howlers, but also you didn't ever get the feeling like you do sometimes with Pasty that he was the only thing between you and a 5 goal drubbing. martinb2012-02-18 19:28:44

I'm made up to hear he's doing so well. Still is much loved here, and regularly hear his name being mentioned at Prenton Park.

His main chant was "Greenacre my Lord, Greenacre, Oh Lord Greenacre"

There was also the version of yellow submarine we done occasionally;

"Number 1, Is Greenacre,
 Number 2, Is Greenacre,
 Number 3, Is Greenacre,
 Number 4, Is Greenacre,
 Greenacre!
We all dream of a team of Greenacres,
 A team of Greenacres,
 A team of Greenacres, "

And so on.

We already use Greenacre my Lord, and we all dream of a team of Vinnie Lias (although not after tonight!) rather than Greenacres ;)

I love Greenie, he's one of my favourite nix players... but where did he learn the offside rule cause he's offside more often than not.

He's not used to playing on grass. Prenton Park is usually muddy and his feet would often get stuck so he rarely strayed offside.
