The FFA are fairly regimented when it comes to qualifications. However, if you are "working towards" a specified qualification this is deemed as satisfactory.
Chris has his A and Des his Pro. This allows both to coach in the A-League.
However, coaches were advised that if they did not have the required qualifications or were not on a specific timeline to acquire them, that satisfied the FFA, then they would not be allowed to take their place on the touchline.
This does not apply in many other leagues around the world, but is a regulation in others.
It also seems that "some" licences around the world are perceived as being more prestigious. This doesn't make any sense, as these licences should all be regulated by FIFA anyway !!!
There was previously talk about regulating the NZ Premiership in this way, not sure if this has been implemented.
If you want a job like this, best make sure you are qualified to coach anyway, then it comes down to your experience, your mana and your ability to recruit good footballers.
