Someone suggested to me that Hudson would be the type of guy to fly down to Wellington for no other reason than to get the rumour mill going.

I laughed when he tried to get into Westpac without a ticket and then played the "Do you know who I am?" Card and still lost.

Is this true? I thought he would get a Nix VIP Platinum season pass for free anyway.

Yes. I was there with a friend and his wife and was talking to the security guard when we were "interupted".

CV entry ...

Late 2016: Having guided the national team to Confederations Cup finals and top of the World Cup Qualifying Group, am required to deny rumours that the confederation's top professional club is seeking to headhunt me. Not a quitter, I must complete the job the nation demands of me ...

Yep, not too over the top ... [hits enter, then save]

We know Hudsons been in Wellington and at the Phoenix training this week, of course he could just be keeping an eye on the all whites. Any rumors of potential manager sightings around?

Why would the Welnix consider Des Buckingham as a coach when he has never coached or played in a professional team. Seems he is going to play the same way as Merrick which didn't work out for the last two seasons.  Maybe Merrick recommended Greenacre and Buckingham and Welnix see them as cheapest option. All the top coaches in the A League have good professional playing backgrounds and experience in coaching at a high level. Why would we want to employ British coaches throughout the club who have no professional experience apart from Greenarce. We should be looking at an innovative, energetic and non-British coach to manage the team.

According to linked in he coached Oxford United, he also talked in a story about an FA cup game. Oxford United at the time would have been in League 2 so Professional albeit just above semi-pro.

Are there any good british coaches? I thought they don't have enough good coaches and this is part of the whole english football tragedy. So why would anyone look for an english coach?

they are not likely to say to them "thete is no way we are going to make you the fulltime coaches, can you look after the team until we find someone better please"  or are they?

Oh go back to your bridge troll. You dont need to have played as a "professional" to be a good coach case and point Sir graham henry, also look at steve hansen he can hardly be called a "professional" arguable the two most successful rugby coach's in history. My personal feeling is that they find the right person for the club to teach and inspire the players to play to their best with an adaptive style if that means fudgeing jim bob from the backwaters of england who never played higher than sunday league then so be it. I get we are fans and are passionate and i salute you for that but i also think the owners who are sinking their own money in are somewhat passionate and much better qualified than yourself to make the decision.

I'd prefer someone who's coached for the last 15 years over an ex-player who been coaching for 5 years.

Henry and Hansen didn't go straight from coaching club rugby to getting the All Blacks head coaching role though (which is about Buckingham's experience). They had to earn the position through gradually moving through the ranks. Yes, the Nix aren't the ABs but I think we need a coach with more experience than Greenie and Des currently have. Got no problem with them eventually getting the the top positions though.

if they did you can't have two had coaches long term so would it be Des that gets the top job with Greenie as assistant considering he's the one with the correct qualifications?

Why can't you have two head coaches?

Only slightly more expensive than having a head coach and an assistant, and if it's the best option available then it's worth that extra.

at some point you're going to give confused messages to the players or have out right disagreements, and in the heat of the moment you can't have a discussion about formation changes and sub's, you just have to react to the situation.

Ramon has to be the #1 candidate. Tried to get a job at Brisbane, so obviously wants to be in the A-League. I figure he will always have Auckland City as a fall back option too.

Do we know if there are any restrictions based on qualifications for head coaches in the A League?

Must have their A Licence

Minimum qualification for "Australian" head coaches in the A-League is the UEFA A Licence.

For foreign coaches, the higher UEFA Pro licence is required apparently.

This was discussed in the NZ media this week, with Ramon stating he believes that his UEFA A licence would be sufficient because he is a NZ resident and so would be classed by the FFA as a local coach, the same way Australians are.

Both Ernie and Ricki had the UEFA Pro licence but would have got by with an A licence.

List of UEFA Pro licence holders internationally (Ernie is under "Other Coaches" near the bottom; Ricki is in the class of 2008)

Anthony Hudson apparently has the UEFA Pro but is not listed (not a completely comprehensive list) :

If this turns out to be true then it shows that Welnix have very little ambition and are trying to run the club on the cheap.

The last thing this team needs is a couple of apprentices running the show. We need someone experianced who can stamp their authority on the team.

Muscat is probably better at stamping his authority: two footed, studs up.

So far Des and Greenie have achieved respectable result. The players seem to be playing with more freedom, and they look like they're enjoying their football for a change. Though it will be interesting to see a Des & Greenie outfit play away (away) from home.

Our new manager will be crucial for the club, we need results to do well in terms of metrics, to do well financially etc etc etc. However if a new manager comes in, it will more than likely take a couple of seasons for the squad to become his own. Right now, he would be working with what Ernie has been trying to build. At least Greenie (and Des?) have the advantage of knowing and working withthe players for a longer period of time.

I'm less opposed to the idea of having Greenie and Des stay until the end of the season as I was a couple of weeks ago. I just hope the board invests in revenue via results on the pitch rather than running the club on the cheap.
