As well as going to the Galaxy game I recorded it too.  While Steve Sumner and Noah Hickey were okay as comments men, Glen Lama (sp?) was abysmal as the main commentator.  Every time Beckham got the ball (or near it) Glen's voice rose an octave and he was very excited and agitated irrespective of whether Beckham was doing anything noteworthy.  No objectivity or appreciation of the game - just a matter of "the important celebrity has the ball".  I realise that without Beckham TVNZ wouldn't have shown the game, but please a bit more professionalism.  Lama was the equivalent of the nine year old Beckham fan who didn't give a toss what the other players did.

Well, a very significant proportion of the crowd at the game behaved like that also. Biggest cheers of the night came when Beckham was taking corners. And the massive roar when he scored from that stupid penalty? What the fark was that?

An away team getting cheered on by the home supporters ... well, I guess the majority of the supporters at the stadium were supporting Beckham, and considering he was playing for the away team, they would have adopted the away team as the one to cheer.

Yea it sucked hearing them cheer the Beckham (dodgy) penalty

They were all pretty sh*te, up Beckham's arse the whole night it was annoying as hell.

Three for me, and two for them.

I'd bet Noah Hickey feels like a right pillock having retired, when this is the type of match he could've been a part of.

Could'nt agree more about the Noah Hickey comment.
How old was he when he retired....28...29.
He could have been part of the whole Phoenix thing and we sure could have used him as a right back!

I wonder if he now thinks...." I blew it big time". Probably thought that Phoenix was going to be another Knights fiasco!
Noah ,man....you should have kept the faith!!!!!

Noah was one of the best players for the Knights last season...surprising to see he did retire.

I thought the break from Fred de Jong and the other twats was a welcome reprieve.

I let my guitar speak for me

Playas, I don't mind the usual commentators... you need to put it in perspective, I'm also a Warriors fan (don't playa hate me), imagine listening to Jason Costigan "OOHHH ITS FIVE MINUTES TO ORANGES" "AHHHHH LOOK AT HIM GO THE MAN FROM THE DUGONG PUKEKOS IS CARVING THEM UP HERE" "PUT THE KETTLE ON THEY'LL SCORE AGAIN" and then the rest of them ... Mad Dog Halligan "Custo... the referee missed a blatant forward pass there, (replay shows pass a mile backwards), yes they got away with one there alright" and then Peter Wopati "The Wawwias just need to get it onto their big men Pwice and Wapiwa, get them suwging thwu the middle and offloading for the likes of Wopati (HIS OLD FOR GODS SAKES NAME AHHHHH) and Wovelli to cwack onto."... and then they go and play in Australia, and you get the Fox commentators especially Wayne Pearce, "I don't mean to harp on about it, but the big slow Worriers forwards just can't cope with the quick style of play".. oh for gods sakes Wayne, life isn't one big bunch of Polynesian cliches!!!

Considering half the stadium were under12 years of age and 90% of them were wearing Galaxy Beckham shirts you know why most of the screams came from when becks was taking corners / penalty.

-.- TVNZ.. What do you expect..

In saying that... im expecting alot more football/phoenix news on at 6pm nightly

While the standard of the commentary was a bit below the level of the teams involved, I'm just pleased that there were a few more hours of football on free-to-air TV to spread the word. At least there wasn't a complete shocker like for the Galaxy v Sydney game where the commentator a little too excitedly exclaimed "It's a bender!" for Beckham's free kick. That guy should go to Sydney for the Mardi gras, apparently the place is filled with them.

I have no problem with those that already have Phoenix gear.  Saw one lad pulling one on on Lambton on Friday and was about to vent when I saw he had a Phoenix top on underneath.

People who only have Galaxy gear I don't understand.

How's my driving? - Whine here

And what do people now actually do with their Galaxy gear??

On second thoughts , maybe its a bit harsh - it beomes a memory of a pretty good night out and some otherwise insginificant but smart-ish casualwear.  Hope they keep/start buying the significant stuff though!

I know, I know, its serious!
