This one aint gonna be easy I feel. Central Coast have been picking up some good results so its gonna be a tight tussle. The win would be nice, but not sure we will get there unless our strikers can really turn it on.

I'd assume Ricki will back his current formation again.

On the bench I'm wanting to see Ward, Pav and Daniel. This is based completely on performances

Thought Daniel was ordinary, to say the least, last night

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

It was tough for him though, it was basically him and mac up there by themselves as everyone else was behind the ball. He was basically just stalling on the counter-attack.

I'd say same team with that bench (Ward, Pav and Daniel), Lia can cover the defense.

well we must be getting close to a few suspensions, and that will mix things up. Pretty sure Siggy is on 4, and Lia will be up there too.

If Lia got two in the game he got the red, do they still both count towards the 5 for a suspension??

Siggy, Brown and Ifill are all on four yellows.  Durante on three.

Lia is on two - the two yellows which combined to make the red against NQF don't count.

Siggy, Brown and Ifill all on 4 Yellows

Ifill's yellows have all been pointless, as was Brown's last night, kicking the ball away is so stupid.

well if siggy gets another yellow, he may see north take his place for the longterm.

The loss of Brown will actually almost be refreshing as we will finally see how Ricki reponds to that loss. Think we may be a better side with either pav next to greeny, or ward in behind him.

Wee Mac is going to be the one to watch in this game, he's been in good form.

We'll need our defence to hold up strong, but our midfield will need to do a LOT of work.

Didn't think Daniel had any faults against Perth except for fluffing a shot. He didn't have many people forward to pass to.

On that note, Jade North made breaks forward against Perth, and didn't have people to pass to, or ran out of ideas.
It would be good if we could use his pace to break forward AND have someone for him to give the ball to.

We won 2-0 in the 2nd game of the season.  Probably doesn't count for much now as CCM are right up near the top and the RoF has lost a little sheen.

I don't like these 7:30 pm games either.

CCM's recent record latest to oldest.

Not really a lot to be scared about , couple of close wins v the second to bottom side, a win vs a Perth side that really threw in the towel away from home, a draw v Gold Coast is respectable and a loss to Brisbane by two goals.  Go Nix.
(Plus they had two byes in there so were playing all their games pretty fresh)

North Queensland Fury Central Coast Mariners FC 0-1
Central Coast Mariners FC Perth Glory FC 5-0
Brisbane Roar FC Central Coast Mariners FC 2-0
Central Coast Mariners FC North Queensland Fury 3-2

Gold Coast United Central Coast Mariners FC 0-0
Central Coast Mariners FC Melbourne Heart FC 1-0

Prior to that wins over Heart 1-0, Victory 2-0, Sydney draw 1-1, 0-2 loss to us, 1-1 draw with Adelaide when they were looking pretty ordinary and I think without Dodd, and another 1-0 over Heart.

Hopefully yesterday's win is the beginning of a recovery in confidence, form and results.

I think the key to building on the Glory win will be stability - to the extent injuries and suspensions allow. I would like to see the same 11 start against the Mariners but changes in the bench.

I've written Mac off - attitude seems fine but he is simply not A-League standard. So Pav on to the bench for Mac. I can't see the point in having 2 forwards on the bench anytime but especially when it will be fresh midfield legs we need this weekend after an arduous couple of weeks so Ward in for Rojas.

The last bench spot is tough - personally I'd have Hearfield because he offers FB and midfield cover but also because he will, in all probability, be needed to play RB when Sigmund gets suspended and North goes to CB so tough on Daniel but Hearfield for me.

You could have Daniel on the bench instead of Ward - no problem with that but I would rather have Ward firing when we get to the business end of the season as I think he offers more than Daniel so I would prefer to play him now.

The players who are going to have to start when Ifill, Brown and Sigmund are suspended need game time off the bench.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

THE prediction.......

Drum roll, dimming lights.........

Phoenix 3  The other lot 0

Ifill now has his eye in, Pav and Greenie will work as a combo (please Ricki), the defence will be like the Berlin Wall.....They are ours for the taking. Oh yes.

Out of all of the players you're going to pick on Daniel? Really?

I thought he did a decent job. Held the ball up a few times , got Burns sent off, had a semi-decent chance (don't blame him for not passing to Mac)

Macallister was the donkey. Should not be in the squad. Have never seen a professional player move so slow in my life - that includes Zdrilic, Rory Fallon and Eugene Dadi.

We seem to go well against CCM, so i'm picking either a 0-0 bore draw (has happened a few times against them) or a 3-0 walloping.

Would be a shame for either Dura or Siggy to get suspended just as they are getting into a little bit of form - guess it has to happen sometime though.

He has his eye in? He actually played pretty well against Brissy but missed two chances he normally would've buried against Perth so eh.

Agreed on Pav, though - needs to be on the bench instead of Big Mac at least.

I'm going to forgo posting about formations, tactics and the rest as I have a more important message:

I know it's a day out but treat it as a one year celebration of NZ's World Cup qualification and drink accordingly.

See you all at the Bencher!

Streaks were made to be broken...but we have a very good recent record against CCM - they haven't scored against us since the final round of our first season, when Kwasnik consigned us to the wooden-spoon that year. It's been 7 games since and we've won five, scoring nine. Paul Ifill has scored five times in the past three games against them.

No, I wasn't picking on Daniel. I was responding to the previous post. As Daniel was the only one of the three players mentioned who played against Perth, he was the one I commented on.

Completely agree about Macallister. I've thought he was a donkey since we signed him, and nothing he's done has changed my mind

The only promise I have seen from Mac was early season when he played along side greeny and Chris really worked well from that, but now ricki doesnt want them anywhere near eachother it seems?

If any of the chaps on 4 yellow cards gets another I will get up and walk out.

Also I will be wearing the opposition's colours (mostly yellow) and I may use one of my kid's passes to get in.

Please feel free to throw bottles in my general direction.

I agree completly. Too often we appear lacking in ideas and too static in and around the box. To me we are playing too many holding midfileders. Brown and Lia together tend to clog up the midfield on attack. They both lack pace and decisive passing skills.

I would swap Ward for Lia. Get hiim to play higher up the park centrally behind Greenacre. Elliot tends to distribute from a deep lying position. At the moment his only passing optons are to the wide guys. Having Ward there would give him a central passing option. Ward then could have the option of feeding Ifill and Leo wide or working the triangles with Greenacre. It would also provide a passing outlet for the likes of North when they bomb forward.

At the moment most of out attack involves leo and Ifill wide.....its quite easy for defences to send two players to double mark Ifill coz we pose no threat in the center. If Ward was playing there it creates another threat.....someone would have to stay central to mark him.

If we are going to persist with playing Greenacre alone upfront then it is a complete waste of time continually banging in high crosses.....at best it becomes 50/50....most of the time you just are handing over possession. We need to keep the ball on the ground and try to pass through the defense rather than over it. To me Greenacre would be much more effective with a creative player working behind him. The player with the best skills to do this job would be Ward.

You only have to look at the way the Roar plays to see what level you need to be at to be succesful now in the A-League. We do have skilled attacking players....its just a matter of getting them to play the right style.

I completely agree, and the way that Ward has linked with the likes of Greeny and Leo was quite promising. Either he starts just in behind greeny, or pav does.

I think one of our biggest problems is that our game seems to be based around our wide players in Leo/Ifill who can whip in good crosses. Thats all good and well but when only Greenie is in there and maybe Brown ghosting from midfield it's not going to work very often.

I think we should play a 4-4-2 with Pav and Greenie up front. It would be hard to choose the 2 in the midfield but i'd probably go with Elliott/Brown and have Ward on the bench to change things up.

Either that, or start playing ball to feet a hell of a lot more.valeo2010-11-09 14:21:38

I'm still not convinced we are well served with Ifill on the wing, would much rather him as a "CAM", essentilly giving him licence to roam without being punished up the wings
