corrected for you

Yeah but the thing is though, hes probably only going to have until hes still young enough for a youth spot to prove himself or he could get axed. im sorry but once hes outside the youth criteria and if he hasnt improved, he shouldnt be in the team. from the looks of things hes going to need a lot of time to settle, but i cant really see him being given that time.

Ricki didn't put Clapham on at 80 because it'd just be a waste of time, he'd have to sit out four weeks for Canterbury. He was purely there as an injury replacement. I'd say Lovemore has a good chance to be signed as a youth spot next season. Showed some good promise.

Apart from that, not worried about the result. Vuko was absolutely outstanding and I hope he keeps that form up.

With a back four of Hearfield, Dura, Siggy and Lochy with Manny and Lia in front we'll be very, very solid.

Brown, Ward, Rojas and BigMac leading the charge with Greenie, Daniel and North on the bench is a very solid line-up especially against a pretty ordinary looking GCU.

Bring on NQF.

dura will still be out for NQF match

having siggy and Many back will help and vinnie too -if fit

We should have subbed Clapham on, if only to give Rojas or an alternate player a rest. The game was lost, we need those players this weekend.

Ricki is the Manager of the Phoenix, not Canterbury. The above shouldn't be a consideration.

The way we played through the middle was kind of to be expected when you are missing 2 starting centre backs and your stopping midfielder you expect to have a torrid time of it.

Musa was very nervous to start but did come into it a bit more later in the game, his positioning is not there yet but with a more vocal centre back next to him to tell him where to go he will improve.

North had a nightmare game, Lochead I though actually had a good game, the nutmeg was just one of those things. He did a lot of covering in the centre last night and his runs weren't to bad.

Lovemore looks like he could be useful, very quick not a bad touch and willing to get past players. Could be worth a look by the boss.

It was always going to be a tough game. We don't play well when teams play 41212/4312 as Sydney have done in the past 2 seasons and CCM have done this year. If we had more CD I would have like to have seen 3CD, but with the squad we had that result was always on the cards.

Not too concerned about that performance....with all those seniors out and NO bench and away to an inform Sydney then a 0-2 is what you would expect.

I totally disagree with the some comments about Musa being a wasted space. I have seen him play twice for the "A" team. He has all the attributes to become a good CB. FFS he is only 18. His senior partner was AWOL most of the match. But more importantly there was almost zero defensive cover from the midfield. We were almost playing a 4-1-3-2.

Ward was playing in a very forward central position and as for Brown.....he was playing too high and was near invisible all match. There was acres of space between our back four and our midfileld. You suddnely realise how much good work Lia and Muscat do. If Musa had being playing beside Durante with Lia ,Muscat and Brown in front of him it would have been a different situation.

Really liked the look of Lovemore. He's quick, direct and seems to have quite good ball control. How old is he? Definetly would be worth a youth spot.

A fair amount of goodwill was extended to allow Clapham to be there in the first place,as injury cover. No injury, no need.
Not sure if the stand down period still applies anyway, regardless of whether he played or just on the bench. As has been mentioned before elsewhere, Ricki knows how good Clapham is, he may even want him next season..no need to show his quality to competing A League scouts, especially given the game was toast.

First impressions, very good. Agree would bring something and potential youth spot. With full regular team would be interesting to see where he could fit.

Agree. Musa needs more time. Keep the faith. He made a couple of good tackles and showed signs of better things.

No thanks to North beside him who looked ... unbelievably inadequate for a Socceroo.

Lovemore was a good news story last night. Didn't look out of place and showed plenty of promise. Don't know him. Local boy?

Paul.  Just putting it out there that if we need a 20th man for the squad on the last day next season can we please sign a Clapham rather than a Toto or a Chen.

Thanks.

This. As poor as North and Musa were tonight, North as senior player especially, they had a very tough brief tonight given Ward and Browny were playing so high. Playing CB is no fun when nobody is picking up runners from midfield.
That's why I was baffled by why we weren't pushing out from the back more quickly to try and deny the Sydney midfield space, we played way too deep. On this front, North needed to be a stronger leader and Musa needs to work on his pace. For an 18 year old he was pretty pedestrian.

I was doubtful of Lovemore (saw him in the Nix "A" v Waikato FC game and he gave the ball away more times than he got it) but he did look enthusiastic and worth a run.

Very well said. Agree with all of that. Time to put this game behind us and move on.

In twitter related news, what a dick head call by Craig Duncan (Sydney Medical Guy):

"A good win last night against the team that will take the last finals spot. Unbelievable that Wellington is in the final ahead of us"

Maybe it's because you sucked for 4/5s of the season.ScoobyD2011-02-10 13:25:21

good god that makes me wanna fly over there and kick some blue ass

this is why he's a medical guy and not a coach
does he realise we were missing 4 four key defensive players?

hearfield-north-musa-lochead
            big huge hole
             brown-ward

is a sh*tload friendlier than

                   sigmund-durante-north-lochead
no hole, just a small patch of grass in which to kick your ass
                             lia-muscat-brown

(although obviously north's spot in there is debatable - still, hearfield in and siggy to CB kicks ass too)

The back four was scary last night, don't ever want to see that again.
The performance was sort of understandable, the only area that was really poor was defense, the rest of the park looked alright.
Ward was good, plently of nice cross-field balls. Like the look of Lovemore, would be good in a front three. Youth squad player?

There are a few upset people about the Sydney game, but nobody should be surprised.
Just come off a tough game in Adelaide, senior players out,new/young platers in.
It still was a pretty poor performance by some senior players. In the end the result was a lot better that it could have been. Danny V saved at least another 3/4 goals. I think that he is the best keep we have had.
North was very poor by his standards. It was only last week most people were saying what a great player he was.
It was a clumsy tackle by Musa, but he is young and will probably be OK in the future. Lovemore was sharp and I liked the look of him. Marco is still great to watch.
There were a few comments on how good Tony L. played except for one mistake. That one mistake cost us a goal, and if you watch the game again, you will see he made a lot more.
We are in the top 6(plaese don't mention Fury)so we have a lot to look forward to.
Everyone on top of their game and we can beat any other team. The problem is getting everone to perform at the same time.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

I have seen Clapham play regularly and I dont believe he should be picked because he is a young prospect. I think he should be picked for the phoenix as he already offers enough to compete at this level. He isnt just good in the ASB championship, he is absolute class, and I believe he would easily be able to compete in the A-League. I havent seen a player dominate games like him in the ASB championship. Clapham is on the same level if not better than Brockie (remember Brockie had to ply his trade back in the NZ championship for a bit). If Ricki Herbert over looks him thim I will be very disappointed and it will be a repeat of what happened with Kosta, except sadly I dont think Clapham will get picked up by another A-League franchise.

Clapham is NOT better than Brockie.

Brocks starts for the Jets, wasn't that the same club where Clapham trialled preseason? Brockie was pushing for a starting spot for AWS at world cup only to get minutes vs Paraguay although Clapham did not even play. Brockie >>> Clapham.

IIRC - Offered a trial, was to be heading over for it, then the Jest used up their last import spot on someone else before he left.
