So i'm way too lazy to try find the old coversation but any word on his recovery? After seeing Eduardo's back for Arsenal 10 months after that shocking injury he's back playing for the reserves i'm wondering if Lia's going to go hard and make a come back before the seasons over?

I spoke with him at the Waitak game in mid Nov and his goal was getting back to training - no chance of Vinny playing this season.

Anyone see him in the next few days, might be a great idea to let him know we haven't forgotten him and still wish him a speedy and successful return next season.

Just PM'd Tony P about it the other day and he said that he won't play again this season.  I know they said that from the start but I think we were all hoping that would be the maximum amount of time he'd be out for with the minimum possibly seeing him pick up a game or two.

I actually completely forgot about Lia. He got injured in one of the first Phoenix games I ever went to so I don't even know if he's good or not? A useful 'addition' to next season's squad??

I think so, he was apparently all geared up to play RB this season, and it was gutting when I heard he was out for the season, but if it hadn't happened we wouldn't of gotten Sex Panther, so there is a positive in there

Lia is a pretty average player imo and never stood out for Melbourne imo. I don't really see where he would fit in now we have Muscat and the fact that Lia was never really a right back anyway. Don't see him getting into the midfield next season either. He's a bit like the Aussie version of Christie.

In saying that, I hope his rehab goes well.

I thought he had some pretty decent skills myself, but we don't really need him because he is quite similar to Plodder, Hearfield, Mulligan and even Bertos. You could also compare him to Ferrante and Muscat... when he's fit he could be a good signing for a new clubOska2008-12-19 09:38:16

I'm with Oska on this one. I though Vinnie looked a decent player last season.

Not afraid to leave the foot in as well, which is alwsys good

Decent Player. Yes, I still have good memories of his skill last season, highlights like the cross to Smeltz against Perth to set him up. Good player and won't be ruled out.

Definitely an asset to the side.

Decent, but nothing special. Don't think he'd be a starter right now if not injured. Probably be toss-up between him and Brown I'd say.

if Christie can't start then I doubt he could tbh, but like I said, could be a good asset for another club

Lia marginally > Christie. IMO.

Lia did look good for that first 45min at home at RB in the PSC and I think would have done well there this season. Good squad player.

I dissagre, i think he offeres a lot in the midfield, maybe RB... .He has guts (what we need) and great passing ability.

Hope to see him back next year! He was going good last year.

I rate him.

TBH he was very lucky not to get sent off a couple of times last season though...

Aussie past counts for nix

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/soccer-football/news/article.cfm?c_id=86&objectid=10781885

"Former Australian international Vince Lia is switching allegiance to New Zealand and could turn out for the All Whites this year

The Phoenix stalwart, who has been with the Wellington club since 2007, is in the process of applying for citizenship and will then need clearance from Fifa. He will theoretically be eligible for the All Whites in May, the month marking five years of residence in New Zealand (the Fifa requirement for transfer of nationality)."

As El Grapadura pointed out in the Transfer Thread, and has been mentioned several times before, he's not eligible to play for us due to him not being eligible to play for New Zealand when he represented Australia at youth level at the World Cup.

Arteta had the same problem for England: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/england/7975748/Fabio-Capello-embarrassed-as-Fifa-rule-confirms-Mikel-Artetas-ineligibility-to-play-for-England.html

(Does this count as plagiarism El Grap?)

Not plagiarism as you quoted your source!

Not the same case as Fallon, Smith, Reid & McGlinchey as they all had NZ residency/citezenship at the same time they played youth level.

I think Vince would have to be the most underrated player in the clubs history. 5 seasons in and he finally makes it to page 2 of his thread. Mr smith meanwhile has been here for a few months as a bit part player and is on page 7!!!

I think the yellowfever should pick a game to honor our vinceAucklandPhoenix2012-01-29 11:49:27

Looked rusty last night but may be a bit to much of a bully boy to play right back.

Vince Lia has a thread?! You're quite right there should be heaps of angst here from ages ago about taking wild shots from distance and crap long balls and giving the ball away. But then he got way better last year. Good distribution. Why so little chatter?

You've got him mixed up with Tony Warner...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
