Not a piney fan but yeah hes better than dewhurst whose complete rubbish.

Piney and Chote do a great job of promoting the game and the Nix, but sadly are not orepared to say what they really think. Way back when everyone who knows anything about football knew that Herbert had simply run out of ideas, Pine was doing the old defend the NZ football empire thing. Thankfully the Dom-Post were onto it, and NZ football really needs some good sports journalism right now. So thanks to Sam W and J. Millmow for doing that. The reality is the club has been left way behind in most areas in A League, and AW's are going to be out of their depth too in the away playoff unless they get help in the form of an international tactician.

Can I ask you whom you do like. You are not a GGW fan, no one is really and Dewhurst fan and Piney is not a fan of yours either. I am intrigued as to whom you would prefer.

I think it should be me and you next year JV

I think people would probably be more entertained by who would kill whom first.
It was a serious question above. I'm just interested in who you rate a a good football commentator in NZ if the above 3 are not to your liking.

Yeah I am serious, Jeff. Way overtime for some honesty with the broadcasting coverage. I know the Sky crew are handicapped to say what they really think, and Zb are similar in that they are also broadcasting partners or whatever you call it. End result is mindless commentary.

For all those who started spoon chants before the phoenix got the two quick goals, shame on you guys. So disrespectful. Sure they've had a bad season, but there is no need for that kind of carry on when they are playing.

I think you should lighten up btw.

Sky should bring in Mike Cockerill to do Nix games. Really good football journo, and had a soft spot for the Nix. Excellent commentator because he's been doing it for yonks.

I was referring more to the Sam W thing... You really need the bullshit meter turn up to full noise when he writes an article as it is littered with questionable stuff (usually without basis)
I agree we are lacking in a good sports football writer right now. Even the opinion stuff is rather poor. I'm not saying rah-rah and be all in behind but when you read Danny's articles, its inherently obvious he has an agenda on the Ricki out thing so its hard to look at it objectively knowing what his end game is. I don't mind Fred's stuff but I have not read an article from him in a while. Mind you, all of the above are a million times better than Terry 'I've watch more games than you so that makes me right' Maddaford.

I think that's extremely unfair. Personally I want to hear the commentator call the game, not climb on a soapbox. Jason Pine's off-air opinion's regarding the Nix and Ricki evidently differ from yours but that doesn't invalidate them. How that equates to defending the football empire I'm at a loss to understand.

Also if you listened to the radio commentary with any regularity you could not fail to hear David Chote's very vehement criticism of team and tactics this season, all given with far greater football knowledge than the so-called journalism of the Dom Post.

Nobody has mentioned it but there was a real lack of discipline today. We had a couple of players that were lucky to stay on the pitch. Siggy and Muscat were just thugs today and all Durante and Brockie wanted to do was to argue with the ref. At 2-2 we had a real chance to get the 3 points and crap defending let us down.

Entertaining game in the end but it was a reflection of our whole season. Lots of huff and puff on attack but not clinical enough in front of goal and then a couple of brain fades on defense. When I saw the team sheet with a midfield of Sanchez and Gamiero and also Rowe at LB I thought we were going to be in for a tough night...but we actually outplayed MV for large parts of the game. But it was the same stuff letting ourselves down. Aimless crosses into no one, lack of accuracy in passing, poor player movement off the ball, lack of patience on attack and lack of concentration on defense.

The new coach had plenty to work on but the bones are there. Even though we got the wooden spoon I think that we are still a better team than half the rest of the League. But what the new guy has to do is get them to a top 4 side minimum. The team showed late season that they are not a bad side. With a few good recruits in the right positions and someone to drill in the right tactics then we can be confident of a hugely better season next year.

As for the rest of the game I thought Steiny was very good....his goal was a very sharp finish and it made you how much he was wasted under Ricki. Leo looks lively on the wing but at 30+ he has lost the gas to blast past defenders. Gamiero is a striker not a AM. Ref was a dickhead.....but they have all been dickheads all season!

A few others have said it but I think it says more about MV's defense and being pants this year at the back. Mullen was all over Brockie all game like it was a deliberate ploy to wind him up. He is certainly no defender.

I had to laugh at the 4th official wearing glasses. More than a hint of irony in that.

Of those teams that have come last, only Adelaide in 2009/10 had a higher points per game than the Phoenix this year.  Adelaide came third the following year.

I find it fascinating that 2 wins and we have been in the playoffs. The bottom lot were very close.

I'm quite glad Sydney are not there. Still think Adelaide are the massive overachievers.

Have to agree. The half time 'entertainment' frankly is a bit pathetic; as is that halfwit who struts around wearing a chicken costume. Was better thirty years or so ago with the old brass bands.

That drumming group is pretty good as well.

Game was average..they played us off the park generally with soem great passing.  their right back looked very comfortable on ball and rarely troubled..had a great quick pass as well.  I dont think they played at 100% tbh.
