Good first ten minutes. Looking a bit livelier on the ball than last season already. Still all going down wings rather than through the middle, but that was always likely to be the case.
What'll be higher tonight - Totori and Bertos's combined effective tackles and crosses, or goals scored in the match.....
After performing this well for twenty minutes with no goal i'm starting to get concerned that we will dominate the game but ship a late one and lose 1-0 :(
Yep Like the look of Fenton, is composed on the ball, and runs well with it.
There is very little build up play from either side and no one seems to be able to make a decent long pass into space. But we look dangerous and great pressing high up to win the ball
Normo's coming home
Manny in midfield made that, smoke that all you putting him to right back !!
If Brockie, Muscat, Lockhead and Bertos turn up for the 2nd half then we could win this by four.
If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid
That Manny-Smith midfield combo is already shaping up really well. Manny's got great vision, put through some top quality ball, and Smith is very solid.
Fenton is exciting. Fantastic to see young Kiwi talent like this coming through. Totori I'm not sure about. Does dumb stuff a bit too often which he's going to have to iron out of his game pronto if he wants to keep a regular first team spot.
Half Time Wrap Up....
Firstly that is probaly the most encouraging start to a season i have seen from the Nix. Some of our play has been brilliant and the movement and passing looks good.
Really impressed with the pressing by the Nix on D... with us looking like a good counter attacking team this will create chances for us. Manny and Smith going well.
Brockie looks a different player, seems to have really stepped up a gear and is more involved. Shuold have hit the target, but seems to be gaining a good understanding with Hsegums who has also impressed.
Totori started off well, but dropped of a bit, needs to find his way back into the game. Fenton looks quaity, keeps possession really well and seems to find a team mate more often than not. Also seems to be reasonable strong which is good for a young kid.
Pastpn still flaps at crosses.
Really excited by this... and with Ifil to come on, Wooden Spooners my arse, Slater i wll beat you with it!!
Unreal to be missing the first match of the season- but we are playing really good football. Perfect conditions for typical longball- but this stuff along the deck is working really well.
Particularly threatening out wide, midfield are dominating and getting back quickly on the break. Huysegems- well taken goal, seems that if it goes to his feet we're all good. Nice touches, just avoid his head?
Pissed myself when Bertos had his first chance. Pointless step-over, followed by a god-awful cross that went in to row z.
Got me thinking though- this is what we were used too. So it's refreshing for it to be the exception to the norm.
Luckily Leo hasn't been tested defensively so far. Every time the ball goes near his wing I start trembling in fear.
This has been a fantastic half for the Nix. I'm underwhelmed by Sydney though. I know conditions are unhelpful, long flight, last minute additions to squad etc., but they are playing like eleven men who've never been formally introduced to one another. Passes to no-one, unmarked strikers, generally ineffective play (apart from a few good set pieces).
Wonder if we are going to be the only team that doesnt play the goal kick from the back
